I really hope they don't push Amazon to the point where they just pull the app. Insane to make Amazon take that route. I understand why they want to do it, but the only losers in this are the consumers. I wonder if Amazon could have the in-app prices be a little higher than the prices on their site to cover the cost?

Lol, Apple's requiring eBook sellers to have in-app purchases for books available out-app, so Apple can get their 30% cut on in app purchases.

If nothing else, all this stuff is good for a laugh sometimes.
I have read a few different pov's about this.

Does in-app purchase mean apple gets its 30% or does Apple just want the process to be cleaner instead of opening a browser window?

If it is to get their 30% cut, then yah its bs. I cant see them doing that because alot of game developers can make money by releasing their game for free and then having add on apps for purchase.

It's both, but primarily for the 30%. it is also "neater" to do it right from the app.

Game developers DO release free games, with in app purchases. Apple still get's 30% on these in app purchases.

Ya for apple it's a win-win. A cleaner user experience for the user (ie my parents could buy a kindle book via in-app purchase, but not the current way), but the 30% is going to be the big attraction for them.

Ahh, yah if they want 30% of Amazons book sales there is no way Amazon doesnt either increase the price for in-app or just doesnt offer it in the app.

Is in app purchases giving 30% to apple in the developers agreement? What stops amazon from having users input their credit card info into the app and then just doing the 1-click purchases directly from amazon. I thought the only thing Apple got 30% off is items purchased from the Apple store?

In app purchases are the same as regular app purchases, with a 70/30 distribution.

Apple. They'd drop the app immediately if Amazon did that. My prediction is that we don't see the kindle app offered for much longer unless they become the lone exception.

What's the big deal?

Apple wants you to use iBooks and not Amazon. Can I download iBook books on my Kindle or Sony eReader? Nope. If I could, would Amazon and Sony want a piece? Yup.

Apple markets and distributes their competitor's product for free, they're lucky to even be in the app store in the first place.

This may have already been asked but I don't feel like searching.

Anyone know how much it costs to get the screen replaced on the new iPhone? I dropped it today at work and it cracked across the top of the screen. Does Bell have any kind of warranty for that?

Check out http://iphix.ca/index.php. I've had a few people go to them to get their screens replaced.

The rumours of a smaller and more affordable iPhone has been circling for a few years now. Today Bloomberg reported that Apple is working of producing a “cheaper and smaller” iPhone that is “about one-third smaller” than the current model and would sell for an unsubsidized price point around the $200 mark. The reason: to take on Google’s Android platform.

“Apple Inc. is working on new versions of the iPhone that are aimed at slowing the advance of competing handsets based on Google Inc.’s Android software… While Apple has aimed to unveil the device near mid-year, the introduction may be delayed or scrapped, the person said. Few Apple employees know the details of the project, the person said. Apple often works on products that don’t get released. The prototype was about one-third smaller than the iPhone 4, said the person, who saw it last year.”
I can't imagine what this will end up being. 200 bucks doesn't get you far with an Apple product.

they have to do something, now that they've been knocked off the top of the marketshare pyramid and with the rate that Android continues to grow i think that Apple has finally realized that they'll need some lower end offerings coming out to keep up

Anyone else have problems DLing 4.2?

I have a 4th gen touch and every time I DL 4.2 it gets all the way finished and then says I have network connection problems.

But I've had no problems DLing anything else and all the diagnostic tests say everything is running fine.

My iPhone keeps pushing the same email over and over to me, usually about three or four times, anywhere between 4-7 minutes each time after I delete it.

To clarify, I get an email on my phone, delete it, then get it again about five minutes later, delete it, and then get it again.

Doesn't happen with all emails, seems random.

Thoughts?

Who is the email provider? Can you go to the web based version of the email and still see it there? If so, can you delete it from there?

Email hosted by GoDaddy.

For some reason my emails from my inbox aren't being deleted when I delete them from my phone.

Ok, so I went to the Heritage Classic today, had the phone out taking pictures and videos. By 6:30 though it said "No SIM", and I thought it was frozen, warmed it up and wasn't working. Got home and re-synched it, re-started it, etc. took the SIM out 4 times and put it back in, still says "Invalid SIM", then "No SIM".

Am looking on the web and what people are suggesting to fix it isn't working. Anyone had similar problems? I'm taking it to the Apple store tomorrow.
