You’re less likely to make a good trade if there are fewer teams still interested.
If there are five teams interested in Lindholm today, there could well be only one or two still interested in September, when teams have addressed their offseason needs and almost everyone is capped out. Unless those teams are absolutely desperate, it’s unlikely one of them fields a better offer than all five offers you got at the draft.

This won't happen. Even if the Flames go into the season with a guy like Toffoli and even if they were in a playoff spot they will still move that player by the deadline, I am confident of that.

Hill and Kulikov weren't notable trades that would be in the realm of the trades the Flames are trying to make.
July 22nd last year was the Tkachuk deal, same with Bjorkstrand. Those would be the two last "notable" trades IMO.
Interesting enough both those deals were outcomes of Gaudreau signing with Columbus on July 13th which was free agency day. Tkachuk because he wanted to walk, and Bjorkstrand was actually a cap dump. I want Flames to move now so they can take advantage of a cap dump like Bjorkstrand if that opportunity comes up.
Zacha/Haula, Burns, Pacioretty, Marino, Petry were all made July 13th...which was free agency day.
Most major business happens between the draft and the 1st day of free agency. Missing that window would be a mistake IMO, and likely means you're better off waiting until the deadline at that point.

Can't give Murray the option to "just get in" again.

There will be another window of availability after free agency hits. Some teams are going to miss out on players they were hoping to sign and will be looking to fill that spot via trade. It is very important going forward that Conroy doesn't just take any scraps offered to him, he needs to not only make good trades for the roster but his future reputation as well.

Lots is going on here Zulu, however I can’t put anything out there without some confidence. Just going to have to read the circus’ thoughts on Jay Feaster, Claims of Conroy/Brass waiting to long etc.

It might take 100 points to "just get in"
32 teams not 20 anymore

Don't make me pull out the post from 2 months ago where you were confident that PLD would never play for anyone but Montreal.

who knows, just responding to the Eklund "rumors"
Flames would probably retain and it would blow up in their faces
Last time he wasn't on the Sutter Flames he outscored
Drai
Matthews
Marner
Kucherov
Stamkos
ect.
the guy is not a bum

Huberdeau was mismanaged.
If the Flames can get Chicago to take him with $2M retained, they should do it.
Like Warrener said, make it worth someone’s while to take him, and if he scores 100 points next year, accept it.

If we're going to make it worth someone's while to take a contract, it better be Kadri's abomination.

And have $2M in dead cap for 8 more years? Horrible asset management

I wonder if Conroy is trying to line up multiple trades to pull the trigger at the same time. It seems possible that one trade could negatively affect negotiations of another. For example, say Conroy isn't getting great offers for Toffoli but is going to bite the bullet and accept whatever the best offer is even if it isn't exactly what he expects. A team looking at Lindholm might then think they can lowball Conroy there because they think he is desperate. I think there could also be an aspect of if Conroy partially blows it up, other teams are going to know that he can't just go half-way with it.

The talk here was that a deal has to be done at the draft. If you are talking UFA day, fine, but UFA day for these guys is a year away.
EDIT: I added some other years BTW.
