If you're going to think about a CGY to VAN line (pipe dream I know), you wouldn't be able to have it stop in Kelowna, Kamploops, Abbotsford, etc... It would have to be city-to-city, or the time frame would make it such that it would be better use of time/money to just fly.
You're not going to get a direct route, and you're not going to go 300 km/h to Vancouver unless you plan on digging an extensive series of tunnels, which would raise the costs exponentially. Double that if if you want service in both directions at the same time.
It's never going to be a fast trip. It's never even going to happen.

Then why are you still in here talking about it? Everyone else is discussing ideas and possible solutions. Even so far as to suggest that it'd be better investment into new green airline tech. The train is an idea, a far-fetched one, and I think everyone realizes that. I guess we should just stop talking about ways to connect our cities better then?

You've offered nothing of substance so far.
You've repeatedly proposed dumping hundreds of billions of dollars of money in to a train system just so poor people can save a couple hundred dollars on a train trip that's going to take three to four times as long as an airplane. You'd rather put these hundreds of billions in to unneeded trains instead of health care, education, social services, or even repair of existing infrastructure.
You're incapable of responding to legitimate criticism of your naive and self-serving beliefs, and instead choose to double down on the inanity every time someone points out the flaws in your arguments..
Not sure where you see me "doubling down" on anything. The closest thing to that would be me stating that I want to dig deeper into numbers myself to see if it could be viable within my own parameters of what that means. Anyone who has disagreed with the idea and put forth their own thoughts with concrete examples and data have been thanked by me and engaged in discussion about other possibilities. Your stance is effectively "Nope. Won't work". Cool, I guess you don't need or want to be a part of the discussion anymore then.
Resolute and I see eye-to-eye on very little politically, but we're still here having a respectful and, IMO, valid discussion about possibilities. You don't seem interested in that.
As for substance, how about driving 3 pages of interesting discussion about possibilities of how to try and solve the immobility of our populace? If you don't find that content interesting, or worth discussing, you're free to not participate at all.
Avi Lewis is a mirror image of Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh. His clown show is simply aimed at a different constituency of angry and clueless rubes.

I totally agree this guy is an idiot, but why does this matter? His parents sent him to private school so he's not allowed to have opinions that might contradict that?
I grew up in one of the wealthiest communities in Canada, does that mean I don't get an opinion on inequality?

Reading into it where I can find it, it wasn't just Justin, it sounds like most of his senior Cabinet members bailed on the debate to go to this event.
Quote:
Trudeau, his senior advisors, and members of cabinet attended a former Liberal’s book launch Tuesday night at Beckta, a high-end restaurant a few blocks from Parliament.
Quote:
DP MP Charlie Angus, who requested the emergency debate in response to the suicide crisis in Attawapiskat First Nation, said it is “unfortunate” that Trudeau — also minister of youth — “decided to attend a Liberal book launch instead.”
