I did run a quick calc on overall 2023-24 5v5 p/60 by position (exported stats from moneypuck) which confirmed it, but the skew is a lot closer then what I imagined:

Centers - 1.619 5v5 p/60
Wingers - 1.657 5v5 p/60
Yeah last one to leave the zone because of goal line coverage.

That makes sense.

I wouldn't consider Eklund's content rumors. Just random made up stuff with no basis or actual info.

But it does get people talking so theres that

As a joke one time I emailed him a "rumour" and he ended up posting it on his site as something coming from an insider. That was way back when he started.

One thing I hadn't really thought of in regards to the timing of it all...

The rumors kind of leaked that the Flames and New Jersey got close to a deal...and then it was later that same day that Hughes kind of publicly called out the goaltending a bit.

I kind of forgot the Hughes family does have a connection to Markstrom due to Quinn playing with him as a rookie in Vancouver and if I'm not mistaken they had a really good relationship too. Also happened to be the year Markstrom really carried the team to the playoffs and some success in the bubble.

So it's possible that Jack was really hoping that they would acquire Markstrom as well.

Or Flames side leaked because they knew it would feed frustration of NJ players. Mission accomplished.

(just having fun with this)

Its pretty rare for teammates to bash the goalie as well.

Coaches sure, but teammates usually come and defend the goalie and take it upon themselves.

I’m sure Quinn would have talked to Jack about Tanev too; I’m still not entirely convinced the Nucks don’t circle back on Tanev

I wonder if Tanev is part of the package, wasn't it posted by someone that Jersey was the leading landing place for him?

I'm honestly surprised Eklund is still around. Have any of his 'rumors' ever actually come to fruition?

Or. the Flames were not able to activate Vladar off the IR as it has not been enough days. Therefore Marsktrom has to be dressed.

Just guessing.

A long time ago yes. He is and largely always was just a rumormonger but he had a few legit sources way back when but I doubt he has any now.

All we know is Fitz returned a phone call.

Maybe he was just telling Conroy a good joke.

Agreed, but as negotiations go;; Calgary has put their ask at a high level so it is important that they don't go below that threshold, or they'll get less for the next guy they are trying to trade. By holding out they also drive up the offers from other teams. ..Maybe some offers the Flames are looking at are potentially even better. I think it's important that they don't lower their ask, because if they do they might get less for a Hanifin when other GM' see them cave in. It helps Flames knowing that they don't have to trade Markstrom, forcing other teams to pony up.

We don't actually know that. It's a rumor at best.

I wonder if a deal is close enough that they wait till after the game or tomorrow even to finalize. The devils need to win this game tonight and losing any roster players last minute would not help that especially if they would not get Markstrom in time to play for them. Markstrom is just the backup tonight so the risk to the major asset they are receiving is minimal. This kind of trade get someone on a day when neither team is playing IMO.

I wonder how this changes things with Kadri as well.

He doesn't want to be on a rebuilding team, and his play has rebounded.
