He can still get 7 as a UFA I think, the new rules for that don't kick in until September.

Bunch of softies on this board as we all get older
Worried about the logistics (wait until he gets home) or his contract status. Call me heartless, but whatever gets the best return for the Flames is all I'm concerned about.

"Contract shenanigans" seems a bit harsh don't you think?
He has earned the right to go UFA if he wants and play where he wants.

If a team is confident they can get an extension done before the trade deadline they can pay a rental price but then extend after the trade or do another trade as you say (if their season goes south). But that's not good for Conroy so he's trying to arrange an extension first.

It’s not Andersson’s responsibility to help maximize the return in his own trade. In fact, maximizing the return in a trade actually could hinder the long term success with his new team if they overpay to acquire him.
He has the right (and should exercise it fully) to sign long term wherever is best for him and his family at the time that makes the most sense for him. His and his family’s life is impacted by this decision immeasurably more than ours.

Just a thought: CC has negotiated potential trade deals with other GMs with what was Raz's contract demands for 8 years renewal. Has now put the teams in front of Raz and has said pick one and cash in on an extra 2 year contract "Your reward for being a loyal Flame". OR spurn those GM's for the 25/26 season and hope you can come back hat in hand on July 1 and get a big money 6 year.

Probably the best case scenario is a team is “confident” they can sign him so they pay the extension price for him. Then they can deal with the contract separately once they have him

I bet that teams are pretty shy on this idea since Carolina/Rantanen last year.

I don't think that's a realistic scenario though. Why would they pay an extension price without an extension in hand? They might make the highest rental bid though.

I believe that you truly believe this. and probably aren't alone.
Sometimes I wonder how some NHL GM's can be so unbelievably bad at their job, and then I remember that the odd GM probably thinks the same way you do, and then I understand why teams are run like the Edmonton Oilers.

Been told not to expect a sign and trade in regards to Andersson, he will be traded as a rental. Andersson might extend with the team he is traded to but he has not decided anything yet. Will want to get a feel for his new team and decide if he wants to stay going forward or go to UFA. I am also told lots of smoke but nothing imminent and he expects Andersson to still be in the lineup.

If you don't want players to use contract clauses that you negotiated into deals in good faith, give them more money to not have those clauses.

Every game Ras plays worries me now. Would be the Flames luck if he suffered a season ending injury the week he's about to get traded

Is there really a huge difference in value between a rental and an extended guy?
If we signed Rasmus right now to 8 x 9 or 8 x 8 or anything - I suspect you aren't getting a ton more for him and you'd have less teams interested.

Makes sense to why Detroit's big offer is off the table (gif deciphering).
