Well played. I gotta admit I did not see that coming. Actually both my picks today missed, by far toughest league to predict week in week out.

Mike Smith of the Falcons just named coach of the year by 1 vote over Sparano.

Either one deserved it.

That was a close call, but I think I would have given it to Sporano myself. Afterall Mike Smith took over a team that won 4 times as many games as Sporano's had the previous year.

I probably would've taken Sparano as well, but I am totally fine with the pick. Ya Atlanta won more games last year, but look at how much disarray that team was in. The Michael Vick dogfighting saga hanging over their heads all year. Their head coach quitting on the team in midseason only to be found accepting the head job at Arkansas the next day. The Falcons were an absolute mess. To go from that to the play-offs in one year, in the hardest division in the league no less, is nothing short of remarkable.

Although he's a member of the Hunt family...Clark and Lamar could be as different as Bill and Rocky Wirtz are for example. So when you have a team who hasn't made a whole lot of moves at the top and combine that with a new owner who the media doesn't have a lot of info on in terms of tendencies. I can see why it's a bit quieter there. Plus lets fact it, New York is the big media market, and the Denver thing was a bit of a surprise, and Detroit well an 0-16 team, I can see why the Chiefs are last in line.
Whitlock claims the vacant GM spot in KC is the most coveted in the NFL.

The Hunt family employed Carl Peterson for 20 years, demonstrating a level of loyalty and patience that is pretty much nonexistent in professional sports.
•The Hunts gave Peterson a degree of autonomy that is pretty much nonexistent in professional sports.
•The Chiefs are more than $30 million below the salary cap and are in position to unload a few more unproductive, expensive veterans this offseason.
•The Chiefs are one season away from playing in a fancy, exciting, renovated Arrowhead Stadium.
•There’s no one within the football side of the organization that a new GM has to show any loyalty. He can clean out the scouting department and coaching staff.
•Expectations are low.
He does make some good points. If your looking for job stability, the Chiefs have proven that they are very patient and loyal. Although that was with Lamar as owner. Clark could be a differant person altogether, like you mentioned.

Packers fire 6 defensive coaches including the co-ordinator.

No surprise here. I mean when you score the 5th most points in the entire NFL and still lose 10 games....changes are needed.

Yeah, I read that yesterday, typical Whitlock in that he takes a lot of backhand swipes and negativity to ultimately claim it's a good thing. One of the readers claims the Chiefs actually are 46 million under the cap.

I didn't know that Clark was as young as he is. 43 years old, he's younger than most coaches and GM's so I'm happy he's at least seeking out a resource in Marty Schottenheimer to ask for advice, even if he has no plans in bringing him in. Him being a newish young owner he may have a tough time convincing an old school type to work for him.

There is speculation that Clark went under the cap to help fund the renovations at Arrowhead. He is commiting $100 Million of his own money. To come up with the funds, he simply diverted it away from players salaries. I can't see it being true, since the Chiefs have to be losing out on untold millions of lost ticket and merchandice sales.

Word out of Seattle is that Seahawks are looking at Rod Maranelli, supposedly as defensive co-ordinator. Tim Ruskell connection, as well as one with Mora. Not so sure about that, simply as Ruskell may not be around after this year, and, Maranelli's never actually been a d-coordinator.

Also speculation about a new offensive coordinator, possibly Ed Donatel, another old Mora connection. Gil Haskins has been there 9 years...probably time for some new blood (OC, and time to start looking ahed for a new offensive leader on the field too) on the offense.

I think it's absolutely mind boggling that no criminal charges have been pursued against Harrison.
It was HIS gun used, regardless if he had any direct impact in his gun being used in Philly, the property is his responsibility.

So, hypothetically, if I owned a gun, and it ended up in some dude's hands, and he kills someone with it, I can get off scotch free?

Ya, that sounds logical.

Athletes and their privileges are really starting to piss me right off.

Too bad he didnt have a defence(partly due to injuries, partly due to extreme suckage at the S position and DE), that could've been MVP.

2009 HOF finalists announced.

Of the first year eligibles, I think Sharpe, Woodson and Smith are no brainers to get in this year.

Tagliabue and Wilson should both be in.

My choices for two other players would be Cris Carter and Bob Kuchenburg.

I think Carter and Thomas are also no-brainers.
