I've been looking around several various news sites about the verdict in the trial, and I'm finding it quite telling that most of the general public think that 'The Five' would be considered radioactive for PR in the NHL and that most teams, and especially 'our' team wouldn't/shouldn't touch them, but figure that the Oilers would happily sign any or all of them.
The stink of E=NG is not just a "Calgary sour grapes" thing at all. The Oilers are known throughout North America as No Goods.

They gave Virtanen a PTO after he was acquitted of sexual assault. So there is precedent.

The entire brokerage knows of my dislike already for the Oilers, so as soon as I get handed the mic during question period, I know for a fact the room will be bracing for it.....
