Really liking the season so far. Wish they hadn't done this countdown to "Rick Grimes' last episode" though. Would have been much better if Rick's end came randomly in the season.

Interesting thought. That would have made for good TV. But the countdown thing is at least part of the reason I started watching again.

That scene between Rick and Daryl was great. Excellent acting from both guys.

I waited until tonight to watch this season because I was losing interest but it's redeeming itself already. The dialogue writing is as good/better than the show has ever seen; it's not so ham-fisted anymore. The acting seems better all around , too, but given what the actors have had to work with for the past several years, maybe the improved material is giving them a chance to shine. Characters that I had disliked in prior seasons actually had me reconsidering them. On top of all this, the pace has been great, although the show historically slows to a crawl after the first 3 or 4 epsisodes; time will tell.
I didn't know that they reworked the show from the inside out but it definitely shows.

It has been a good season but I was thinking about this to myself and I really think that the decision to let everyone know when Rick's final episode was going to be was a good one.
I was thinking I wanted to be surprised, shocked and awed by the end of Rick but it really would have done his character and the actor a disservice not to mention been almost impossible to pull off in secret.
This way we can be prepared to watch a respected character make his exit stage left. I'm glad I know its coming and I'm looking forward to watching.
I dont think it being a surprise or a quick last-second 'Rick got bitten by a zombie' would have made me a happier viewer. I'm sure theres some shocks and twists planned, but I like they way they've gone about it.
Its been a strong season thus far, I've been happy with it.

...or not. Classic TWD cop out.
Between that and the 10 year old Judith sharp-shooter ending I would say the season took a hard right turn into a bridge abutment. Was really solid up to that point.
For those that don't watch The Talking Dead, AMC will be producing original movies that will tell the rest of Rick's story and expand on the TWD universe.

I'm curious if Maggie is going to get a send-off of any kind or if she's just going to be gone after the time jump? I noticed she wasn't in the preview for the next three episodes at the end.
Maybe they're leaving the door open in case her new show bombs.

The jump forward was so bad. I can't believe this is the same show as seasons 1-4 or so.
Also, out of all the people he hallucinates during the episode... Sasha?!
Not Lori, Carl, Glenn, Andrea, the Governor even?
Yet another time jump is a desperate maneuver to save the show, it completely destroys all the tension from the series. The whole hook as been that we're following the day-to-day struggle for survival of these characters, and we are jumping forward 6 years? Don't worry though, Negan's still in the cage!
And Judith is wandering the forest with a revolver that would launch her 10 feet backwards sniping headshots from 50 feet away.

I think they were setting it up for her to be with Georgie or maybe even take over for Georgie (the record lady who visits different settlements to trade knowledge).
They were emphasizing that she was sending letters to Maggie regularly

Most of that episode was not good. I enjoyed the Negan bits, and Rick and Daryl in the pit but the rest of it with the dream segments were so bad. Not sure what to make of the jump forward. I guess they needed to have another kid to replace Carl, but we all remember how painful young Carl was to watch. I do like the idea of evolving walkers, whatever it means, that was long overdue. Hopefully it ups the threat level significantly.
Rick is apparently indestructible, and I still can't comprehend how a chopper flies around in what would be a very quite civilization and no one anywhere has noticed it yet.

While I agree with almost all of this, haven't a lot of us been basically asking for the show to make big changes, I gave up a few seasons ago and decided to give it another go this season.
I felt like this season was going down the same road again, until this episode where it genuinely felt like they just kind of threw dynamite and will take the show down a new path. I'm very interested to see if it works because for me I have not enjoyed this series much since season 4-5.

Yeah, as frustrated as I was with the end of the episode, I'm still interested to see where this goes now. On the whole the season has been a marked improvement. However, the start to the time jump was a little ridiculous.
I don't like how Rick "went out". Either kill him or don't, and if you don't then there are some aspects of his story I would have preferred be resolved with the main group, not with Jadis and the helicopter people. When he sacrificed himself it had an impact on me as a viewer, but it was taken back when he was lying unscathed on the bank.

I knew the send off for Rick would end that way so I wasn't surprised.
However my wife noticed something:

I noticed that as well. I thought I was just hearing things, or it was a clever little easter egg for eagle-eared viewers.

This.....so much this.....
Just awful.
And how does Rick survive that explosion? And how did that explosion somehow result in him winding up in river?
And now zombies are "evolving" and can somehow now speak?
This show is going in directions I don't think I can follow.

There was a spoiler in Talking Dead that may explain what we heard. I'm reluctant to post it as I think it may also be a comic book spoiler.
Edit- from Hockeyguy's post below, I mean something in the comics that would be a spoiler for TV watchers.

It for sure is related to the comics, but it wouldn't spoil anything for comic readers.
