In hindsight, they should have tanked in 2004, then they would have had one more lottery ball in 2005 and increased their chances of getting Crosby.

You can't just force the players to stop playing hockey.

Maybe we should call the Oilers management or their #1 Picks and ask them how to do it?

lol, maybe you should take a little time to read this thread, the "Drive for 30th" thread, and every PGT thread the last week or so.
5 years? Most posters are saying that right now.

Oh geez, let's just ignore Tinordi trolling and get back to actually talking about the draft and not get suckered into his schtick.

I've said it before the fact that the Oilers managed to be the worst team in the NHL back to back years is a testament on how good they are at tanking. In hindsight we should have traded for Zach Storitini and played him 15 minutes a game like the Oilers did.

The primary difference between the Flames, and other teams such as Carolina, over the past few games, has been goaltending.
I didn't actually see who the stars were last night, but I assume that MacDonald was the first or second star.
In each of the prior two games, Kipper was first star (and deservedly, it wasn't just ceremonial).
Without stellar goaltending, they lose the Detroit game for sure, likely lose the Anaheim game, and most likely lose the Minny game.
And if that happens, these silly conversations - and fly by trollings - aren't happening.

My vote is Danny Taylor! The way he was kicking rebounds into the slot the last time he player, I think he's our guy.

If these kids win out the season we are going to have to look at kids like Wennberg and Domi. Domi is far too small I think. And Wennberg from all I can read and watch looks like Backlund 2.0 which isn't the end of the world but he isn't a game breaker either.

My hope is someone goes off the board in the top six. Or that Calgary wins the lottery... but I won't hold my breath on either.
I'd be okay with any of these combinations in the first round, assuming that Calgary picks around 7, 16-20, and then 25-30:
First pick: Elias Lindholm / Sean Monahan / Aleksander Barkov
Second pick: Rasmus Ristolainen / Fredrick Gauthier / Anthony Mantha
Third pick: Robert Hagg / Madison Bowey / Ryan Hartman

Realistically, Lindholm, Gauthier, and Hagg and I'm a very happy guy. Plus there's usually always a team or two that goes off board, so I could see Ristolainen, Nurse, and maybe even Shinkaruk being taken higher then they are being projected to be.

Lindholm/Monahan, Gauthier/Mantha and Hagg/Morrissey for me ... that would be awesome.
guess this will be the first draft I'll watch till the end. Normally I hit the bed after the Flames pick, but this year, it seems I'll have to stay up until the first round is over ... by that time it's usually 5 or 6 am

My prediction is that Ristolainen gets taken much higher than he's projected to. After reading his qualities, he could be a top pairing defenseman. Teams might roll that snowball consistently until June.
I see Nichushkin falling, Grigorenko style.
I also see Bo Horvat going around 15-20, not 10 as the ISS rankings suggest.

I m really hoping that Ristolainen and Zadorov rise and maybe even bump Lind/ahan down.
On a separate note, I have a bizarre feeling that Barkov will be the guy that slides down. Would be awesome if he were still around at 7/8 because some teams were chasing the defensemen.

Agreed. The last 4 drafts at least one guy was taken higher then predicted.
2012 with Lindholm (6th), Koekkeok (10th), and Pouliot (8th)
2011 with Scheifele (7th)
2010 with Schwartz (14th), McIlrath (10th), and maybe Burmistrov (8th)
2009 with Glennie (8th)
So hopefully someone will do the same this draft (that isn't us) and leave us with some quality prospects like Lindholm, Monahan, Hagg, Gauthier, and maybe even Barkov.

I´ve always thought that finnish players usually drop down during the draft rather than move up.

god I'd love that. I mean, Couturier fell to 8 two years ago after he was thought to be a top 3 guy ... so it happens. Unlikely though that Barkov slides.
My ultimate dream scenario would still be winning the lottery and moving down to 2 or 3 for extra picks. Won't happen of course.
