How’d this thread get whiter. The thought of any of you “moshing” to Alabama Shakes at the folk festival makes me cringe.

And on top of all that excitement they have some incredible acts. Wild Rivers was so good last year. Playing MacHall in April

Normally solidarity is signified by the right fist raised in the air. Can't do that here for ... reasons.

I do that. I hate it. I don't know where it comes from. It just pops out. I never normally say the word outside of a toast scenario. Weird.

A bank? that's too small. You'll need a spank trust fund for that one.

Only cool people can get away with it.
When it comes to interactions with Cap'n Diabetes I just type jam in a smorgasbord of slangs I know will further embolden him to come after me, and then I ignore him.

Seems strange to reply to me in an unintentionally self-defacing fashion just to get a “that’s weird but OK” response you can reframe as someone “coming after you” but if that’s what gives your life purpose then that’s nice I guess.

The lack of basic work that is happening with some/a lot of people who work from home RGMG's I am seeing it from friends but also experiencing it first hand in trying to get a few basic things done. Multiple days waiting for a call back after multiple messages have been sent, emails not getting returned, getting cut off on a basic request because someone is yelling in the background about the BBQ being on? I guess the wife is grilling lunch randomly and you don't action a request? Everywhere you go during the day is busy.
I am really not surprised a lot of companies, governments and employers are restricting or ending this practice. We all thought the days of taking calls, emails and typing on a computer in a physical office would be limited going forward during Covid. I guess we were wrong in thinking that a lot of people don't even do that while at home.
I am a proponent and fan of WFH for people but I think it's gotten out of hand.

I find the people that were dog fcukers in the office are also dog fcukers at home.
Generally work practices don't change just location.

Is “action a request” new jargon?
Anyway, how do you know somebody is working from home when they don’t email or call you back right away? Sometimes people are doing tasks that doesn’t require them sitting by a computer or phone. Why are you calling people during lunch?

Yeah, with proper processes and accountability WFH is just basically enabling more time and freedom to get the job done. I know if I have 6 real hours of work to get done in a day I’m doing it from home so I don’t get derailed by office chit chat.
Someone on my team has a job to do. If it gets done well (on time, quality, etc), then whether they did it in the office at their desk while wearing slacks and a button up or did it at home in their pjs while watching tv for half the day makes literally no difference to me.
Complaints about WFH are pretty much always about symptoms of a different problem.

As I said in the post, I see it first hand with friends and also experience it. Client and customer service has gone down the hill across the board. The frustration isn't with an email or call not being returned right away, that is standard stuff. Waiting all week for calls, emails and voicemails to be returned for basic/minor requests is another.
Several friends of mine who WFH just flat out tell me the truth, I'll just make up more stuff on CRM software to look busier than I am. Who's following up?
I think there is more to this which is why there is a big push for back to office work for a lot of places. It's kinda harder to BS or get around certain client complaints or losing of business if your being held to account.
As I said before, this isn't an anti WFH thing, I think it's great to a point for a lot of people. I think too many people are taking too much advantage of not being around management, clients, colleagues

You didn’t really answer my question.
Is it maybe just the people you call friends that do this so you’re turning a small sample set of people into “lots of people”? I think it has been great for productivity. Most of our company is WFH and the least productive time is when everyone tries to reconnect with each other whenever they’re in the office together. It’s like a family reunion once a week.
Have you been out recently? If you’re blaming bad customer service in WFH, I think you’re barking in the wrong direction.

What brought this up was just this week I have had to deal with 2 different government related departments that are quite small in nature. The AB Government with the Edmonton office has been fantastic but the Calgary office that is still WFH I have not been able to get in contact with at all, all week. This isn't a dig at Government workers at all but how can you not get ahold of an entire department in a week, literally all week? How can your colleagues not get ahold of you in a week?
Ironically the friends who are professional DOG ****ers are all up in arms because back to office from HQ. When questioned why, the response is it's nice to have flexibility and free time to do other stuff during the day. I totally understand but with how little work they do for $150k a year + ++ they understand it's a sweet deal but now the gravy train is ending.
A friends wife who works for a non profit at nearly $300k a year WFH. They have a new born and it's like nothing has changed. The husband actually doesn't even know what she does for work. It's pretty much "watch the kid while I do a zoom call for 2 hours" a few times a week. He can't comprehend it and admits it. Finds it frustrating cause culturally wise the male looks after expenses and bills. He is killing himself for $95k paying for almost everything.
It's not like this is all in my head or something, literally tens of millions of employees are being forced back to office work. Canada/USA/ EU Private sector, public sector, Liberal Governments, Conservative governments. Small companies, multinational corporations.
Maybe ownership and management are just looking to increase operating expenses and insert additional control. I don't know. Maybe this is just another cycle like other things. Open spaces, closed spaces, different perks, strict dress codes, flexible dress codes, big corporate conferences, no more conferences.
