I believe Rogers actually offers a shared plan for an extra 20$/month. Which can be negotiated to around 10 i hear.

This has likely been covered, but I don't want to read through this giant thread.

Yes.
Call Rogers and ask for iPad Sharing, then call back and say you want to cancel. Tell retentions that Bell offers it for $10 (instead of Rogers' $20) and that you are tired of being nickel and dimed on everything all the time. They'll price match it.
If you currently have the 6GB/$30 plan, adding $10 more to share that 6GB with your iPad is pretty good. Obviously, never having to pay for anything ever would be better but $10 probably isn't going to send you to the poor house.

My bad. Rogers didn't initially offer data sharing, but I have verified what the two posters above me said. Once it was rumoured that Bell was going to, Rogers added a data sharing option.

If you have a super sexy voice like me you can even talk the retentions people into taking $10 off the data charge, plus an additional $10 off your voice charge for a grand total of $0 for iPad data sharing.

Kevin Rose: iPad 2 announced in "next 3-4 weeks" -PC Magazine
Quote:
"I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next '3-4 weeks,' possibly Tuesday February 1st.," Rose posted. "The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back camera. If you're thinking of buying an iPad, hold off for now."
|
Retina display (as Apple currently defines it) seems hard to believe. If the iPhone 4 is 960×640 on a 3.5" screen, wouldn't a similar pixel density on a 9.7" screen be ridiculously high resolution? (There should be math here, but I'm too lazy) I'm not saying they can't make a 2560x1920 or whatever resolution screen, but wouldn't it require more than a system-on-a-chip type graphics processor?

Yeah to make an iPad screen at iPhone 4 like resolutions it would have to be like 2530x1897! (7.76x5.82, 326ppi)

Retina display is Apple's way of saying the pixels are too small to see with the naked eye. The resolution wouldn't have to end up being anything insane to fit their loose definition - getting up around 300dpi would be close enough to fit their description.
If Apple is in fact bumping screen resolution on the iPad, I don't fully understand their strategy. They have 3 screen resolutions now, the 3gs, the iPhone4, and the iPad, but iOS doesn't have any kind of resolution independence, nor is resolution independence all that useful for designing touch oriented interfaces on these widely differing platforms. So I think it would be huge headache for developers to have to support yet another platform in terms of screen size. (also it's not even screen size that's different, all three platforms have different aspect ratios)
It's also almost at the point where having a 4th spec gets confusing for the consumer, when Bob's iPad2 has an app, but they can't get it for their 1st gen iPad, etc.
Mostly, though, I'm hoping the iPad2 doesn't diverge wildly from the iPad1 since I paid a lot of money to be an early adopter, and would like to be at the leading edge for a while longer before I spend more cash I don't want to be using a device that can't run all the apps that are coming out.

300dpi at 7.76"x5.82" is 2328x1746, which is pretty insane

lol front and rear facing camera, how predictable was that. They coudl have easily put it on last years first version but ripping off their loyal fanboys and general customers was too much to pass up I guess.

I can see it now ... a darkened conference room with the specs for the prototype iPad up on a screen, complete with forward and rear facing cameras. Steve Jobs slowly walks up to the image
"It's almost perfect" he says.
He pulls a big red marker from the breast pocket of his turtleneck. Uncapping it, he x's out the cameras.
"There ... that'll show those little f***ers."

purpose product obsolescence is hardly an apple original thought. hell, ea sports does it every year with their games... removing features even and re adding them 3 years later as "brand new".

Jokes aside, and the picture you painted is funny, I think yes, leaving it out on purpose to sell more units the following year is exactly what happened.

i would buy an ipad instead of a laptop if i could have more file system control or plug in a usb. having to convert all my movies to a mp4 format then loading them in itunes is far too annoying a process to bother.
oh and the fact ipad isnt in widescren format to begin with

Apps like VLC and CineXPlayer do not require the conversion of movie files anymore.

One of the other rumors for the iPad 2 is a USB port, which also should have been in there from the start. Good luck with your file system control though...
