Yeah actually, building infrastructure to handle peak times is a good idea.

Well, that's an interesting question, isn't it. Is it really necessary that our city sprawls to the point that it does? Is it necessary that the City subsidizes these developments to the point that it does?
IMO it's not all that necessary. And if it's so outlandish that the City spend a paltry sum on a nice bridge in the inner city, maybe the billions of dollars it spends on sprawling infrastructure is worth a closer look as well.

I'm loving this debate; please keep it going for another 3 years, it helps me pick out the crazies on CP.

They are adding capacity right now... They are extending all the platforms on the stations to add a fourth car... For the few crowded times of the day.
Also I just went outside and looked a the six lanes of bow trail... And guess what they are empty... They shouldn't of added those extra lanes each way back a few months ago.

Totally. There's times when my son has to wait upwards of 8 minutes to ride on the swings at the park. When do I get another one a block away? I think we can all kick in a 1.50 so that my son doesn't have to be sad, don't you?

Just give the number, that's all. It shouldn't be that hard for you, right?

Hey now. In my defense I did say that there are lots of people who think that bridge looks awesome. Lots of 'em.

There is an extra platform at Victoria Park Station. And its only a slightly longer walk from Erlton Station to the saddledome, so I guess we should (did). Also im fairly certain they have extra trains for after flames games.

Sure but it's still packed, and sometimes you have to wait for a train or two to get on. That's not right.

The loudest and most vocal against this project tend to be very ignorant about it I've found.

Well, it's been a fun dog pile but I gotta head to bed. Please, I encourage everyone to enjoy this marvel of architecture - I really do hope that it gets used extensively.

There is some pretty big opinions about where money should be spent by a guy who freeloads at his wife's place.

You don't build for current need, you build for anticipated need; this is true of both pedestrian and traffic facilities. Hillhurst is about to go through the single biggest growth period in its history, as some new condo development goes in. Pedestrian access to and from the community is crucial, not only to accommodate this additional population, but help shape it. If you're a motorist who uses the 10th/memorial area, you know how congested this area is. Now imagine 500 more motorists coming into and out of the neighborhood every rush hour. Not too fun. Now imagine a similar number of pedestrians. Doesn't really affect your commute that much. If pedestrian/cyclist access becomes the defining draw of kensington condo life, it'll ensure that traffic doesn't get even worse, both for us locals, and everyone who commutes through there.
