I think Mooch was very underrated. He got a lot out of some very mediocre Niners teams. There wasn't a lot of talent on those teams outside of T.O. and Garcia.

Sounds like Bowlen is a bit apprehensive to give total control to the next guy, which would leave Holmgren and Cowher out.
The more I think about it the more I think Shanahan winds up in KC.

I had to chuckle when Bowlen was asked about what if another Division team was to hire Mike Shanahan and Bowlen says....why didn't you just say Kansas City?
I would love to see Shanahan in KC myself. Although the Chiefs defence is terrible and thats not his strength, Shanahan has been able to win playoff games which is something the Chiefs have not done at all since Joe Montana. 14 years, two losing seasons, and 7 playoff appearances...as a Chiefs fan I'd be happy to get that.

Some Jets players call out Favre: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3804004
"A veteran Jets player, quoted anonymously by Newsday, described Favre as a "distant" teammate who, when at the Jets' practice facility, spent his down time away from teammates in an office specially designated for him.
"There was a lot of resentment in the room about him. He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone," the player told Newsday."

Do you find the Chiefs situation strange?
Here we are listening to all the rumors of Peoli to Cleveland. Cleveland, Detroit, Denver and the Jets all lining up interviews for a coach.
Not a peep out of KC. Weird.

Not really, first the Chiefs haven't had a lot of change in terms of coach and GM for the last 20 years. I think Gunther Cunningham is the only coach they fired. Schottenheimmer and Vermeil both resigned on their own terms. Plus you also have what is essentially a new owner who's never hired anyone himself for the position. Although he's a member of the Hunt family...Clark and Lamar could be as different as Bill and Rocky Wirtz are for example. So when you have a team who hasn't made a whole lot of moves at the top and combine that with a new owner who the media doesn't have a lot of info on in terms of tendencies. I can see why it's a bit quieter there. Plus lets fact it, New York is the big media market, and the Denver thing was a bit of a surprise, and Detroit well an 0-16 team, I can see why the Chiefs are last in line.

Initial draft order released today.
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation...rst-round.html
Denver picks 12th. Last time they had the 12th pick they got a franchise QB.
This time?
Anybody have any sites they use for draft stuff that has rankings and mocks this early?

I think it's still too early to call Cutler a franchise QB, but here's an okay site for mock drafts and prospect profiles: www.footballsfuture.com
EDIT: WARNING - Stay our of the forums there. They're a cesspool of social despair.

So that automatically eliminates the article, and the words by their starting tailback?

He'd be an excellent WR coach. In fact, he already has been coaching without the official title even though there is another WR coach. I don't know that his ambition is to be a coach though.
Word is Elway may be involved in the new management team though.

Most probably read the story yesterday, but Thomas Jones had a few things to say about Favre.
Quote:
"The reality is, you throw interceptions, I'm (ticked) off, I don't like it. You know what I'm saying? I don't like it, I know everybody else on the team doesn't like it."
At that point, the show's host, Angie Martinez, asked the AFC's leading rusher if teammates start to look "funny style" at a player that makes that many mistakes.
"If somebody is not playing well, they need to come out of the game," Jones replied. "You're jeopardizing the whole team because you're having a bad day. To me, that's not fair to everybody else. You're not the only one on the team."

And the Vikings might not sell out, and may have the playoff game blacked out locally?
Quote:
The Vikings reported 8,000 tickets remaining at noon New Year's Day for Sunday's game against the Eagles. The NFL has granted an extension until 3:30 p.m. local time Friday to reach a virtual sellout, but the possibility of a local TV blackout looms.

Thomas Jones scored ONE freaking rush TD a year ago...fast forward to a new year with a QB that could stretch the field and thereby allows the running game a better shot....and he scores 13 TD's.
And he calls out Favre?
What an ass.

Just the start of things because of the financial situation in the US....things are only going to get worse for every sport IMO.

We have seen the cost of attending sporting events sky rocket over the last couple decades. With a soft economy, will we see some of these franchises lower prices to a more affordable level in the upcoming year?

No question.
I listened to one of the sports radio shows a few days ago and they were addressing this very topic.
Obviously there are places that will be hit harder than others and those in more dire situations will be the most up front about price cutting. Others not so much.
One team to watch is the NY Yankees IMO. New stadium to pay for and fill up, new gazillions on the books for players, etc etc. Now they have there own revenue producing abilities that 99% of other teams in all sports dont. That helps them, but its gonna be a while before they see any gains from years past, yet they have continued on like nothing has changed. This could really come back and hount them.
