Yep. They used to be so conservative, now I can't believe how many NFL coaches will go for it on like 4th & 2 on the opponents' 25-yard line in a tie game.
Will be interesting to see if there's a similar philosophy change in the CFL.

Stewart Johnston was appointed by the CFL board of governors with the mandate that the status quo was not an option. I think he has made significant changes while at the same time keeping the key elements that made the Canadian game unique. We'll just have to wait and see if it attracts more eyeballs to the CFL, but it certainly managed to create a stir.

As a long time fan the most important thing for me is that decades from now there is CFL football that is distinctly Canadian, in all of Canada's big/medium markets and sufficiently popular that it maintains some spot in the Canadian sporting zeitgeist. Right now we're on the cusp of it falling off that radar and I support any initiatives to maintain or grow it with younger / new Canadians, even if it means changes that I personally don't care to see.

Don't forget weather affected football
It irks me to no end that to old-guy CFL fan, when asked about the best games in history, they always bring up games where good football or a strong team was negated because of weather. Having the gameplay diminished by slippery turf, or a snow covered field is not a hallmark of Canadian Football.
The Ice Bowl was not a classic, the Fog Bowl was a funny story but not a classic, the Stamps losing the 93 Western Final in -60 degree wind chill was not a classic.

VA says his back is feeling better each day, no word on whether he will play Friday...

A better question is whether they have plans to change it right now or in the near future. The answer is obviously no.

I think that honest answer is maybe.

Well the answer obviously isn’t maybe because they didn’t announce a change to four downs.

I feel like you can't do four downs if the field is as wide as it is. May as well just adopt most of the NFL rules and field dimensions then. And that might be what the end game is eventually, but then what's the appeal of being a clear minor league? Probably AA or ECHL level at that point.

The best thing the league could do is expand to 12 teams (Quebec, Maritimes, London or Okanagan. Expand the footprint.
New rule tweaks aren’t going to attract young fans.

Not saying I think this is going to happen because we all saw what transpired the first time the CFL attempted to expand to the States, but shortening the field to 100 yards and moving the goalposts to the back of the endzone does make things a little easier.
/The endzone being 15 yards long and field width to 65 yards is still an issue, though.

Okanagan would be interesting and might be quite profitable. You would attract fans from Salmon Arm/Sicamous all the way to Penticton.

I don't know. The league has issues attracting 20k fans in major markets. Not sure I want to see the Stamps play in front of 5k people in Kelowna.

To me its the opposite, the bigger cities have more things going on, so the CFL is trying to compete with that. The smaller places could thrive. But I don't see a lot of players wanting to playing in the smaller places.

The population of the Thompson-Okanagan region in British Columbia was an estimated 631,367 people in 2022. And growing like crazy.
The metro population of Regina is 250K. Saskatoon is 266K.

As for the Stamps, VA is listed as starter on the depth chart with Love and Bonner as the backup QB's. Quincy Vaughn is listed as fullback (interesting). Mills and Choquette are the running backs.

Can Saskatoon handle a 2nd team in Sask?

Not sure as the Riders depend on an influx of fans from outside of Regina for games. It would probably come down to a bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul.
