When was the last time we were this deep into the clay season with Rafa yet to hold a trophy?

Brutal, Tsitsipas played out of his mind retrieving shots meer mortals wouldn't get to. I think Nadal is still rounding into form, hopefully he will be at 100% at the French Open. I still say Thiem and Djokovic are the co-favorites to win with Nadal 3rd right now.

Just moved into a tie with Rafa for most Masters 1000 titles (33) with his 6-3 6-4 win over Greek Yogourt.

Well Canada goes 50% today as Felix loses but Shapo wins and will now play some guy named Djokovic in the 2nd round.
The mass appeal of some other guy named Roger Federer:

I managed to see some of the Felix - Coric match and it was some high quality tennis from both guys. Felix with a few too many double faults today and Coric winning the majority of the big points was the difference.

These draws are frankly the worst I think I have ever seen for two guys who you'd like to see making a run. Madrid? They play each other with the winner playing the best clay player in history. Rome? They each play high-end players (in PCB's case a former top 10 who can still play), and then if you get through, you get the #1 player in the world.
That just does not seem fair to have two tourneys like that back to back.

Stan the Man is Joe Namath strug-gl-ing these days, he followed up his 6-1 6-2 loss to Rafa in Madrid with a loss to David Goffin in Rome today. He won the first set 6-4 only to lose the next two sets 6-0 6-2.

Stan needs to invest some serious time and energy into his training and fitness. Injuries may be playing a big part in it, but he certainly is not moving or executing like the guy that was winning majors not too long ago.

I seriously doubt it's a result of a lack of commitment. There are very few players who can sustain that form well into their 30's. He missed some time with injuries and despite short bursts in good matches from time to time never got back to where he was. That shouldn't be surprising.

He's knocked off at least a half dozen big time players this season, despite not playing many matches. He also has very few points to defend given his light workload late last year due to injury so I wouldn't be surprised to see him right back into the top 20 sooner than later.

It is surprising when you're talking a multiple grand slam winner who held down a top 5 ranking for 3.5 straight seasons. There are also at least 10 players that are currently holding top 20 rankings who are older than 30, so it's not that uncommon at all to be able to play at that level for more than a short period of time.
Something is off in his game and it certainly isn't his racket skills.

Well... yeah. He's busted. Like I say, it happens. It doesn't happen to everyone , but it definitely isn't a surprise at 34, especially given his injury history.
