It is. There's just a lot of smoke to the rumors. Freidman, Johnson, CP posters with inside info. Lots and lots of smoke. From the sounds of Johnsons interview today, it's been brewing in circles for a while and he was still hearing it last night from other NHL people.

Here's a quick write up of why Keefe would be a good coach (for the Rangers):

Seems to be an analytics based coach who is good with young players.

Whew...ok, thank god.

And I agree, it doesn't make sense for Treliving to talk about salary not being an issue and then hire a cheap coach like Peters. Smoke or no smoke, I still think it's gonna be either AV or Sutter, especially considering his comment about experience being a big asset in regards to what they're looking at as far as coaching.

Yes, sure. I'm just surprised that he would take another gamble, if this all turns out to be true. And sure, his goals results are partly a product of poor forwards, but our forward core isn't exactly littered with assassins either.

In reality though, this management team really has done nothing yet to earn a ton of trust on their decision making process. Our management is often wrong. Our management is often right, but even the time they're right hasn't really led to success.

Congratulations.

You just hired Guy Boucher, while Girard Gallant has likely been scooped up by another organization.

The good thing about the Peters rumour is that we will have closure by the end of the week one way or another.

I'm not nearly as down about this rumour as others but I do see the risk. Not a lot different than pinning your hopes that Gulutzan would improve in his 2nd stint as head coach. You're kind of hedging your bets that a guy that hasn't made the playoffs in four years with an average/below average roster can do better with the Flames roster. Not saying he couldn't be a good coach but he doesn't really have a winning track record like a Sutter, AV, Ruff, Tippett, etc. You know what you are getting with those coaches and the odds are pretty good there would be some success. With Peters it's a lot of hope and faith. It's the kind of coach hire this organization has badly missed on in the past.

In regards to a potential Peters hire...

What bizarro world do we live in where the best guy for the job, is a guy that you hope is not as bad as his record would imply?

Dreger hinted that ownership wants Sutter to be coach in the video I watched. I would be okay with that. Vigneault is also high on my list.

I don’t get the Peters rumor and I am not excited about it at all.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Carlyle is fired when the Ducks are swept and he was rumored 2 years ago. Trotz is also an option potentially if the Caps lose in the first round.

Who do you hire - no years in the POs (no head coaching experience but AC on a good team) or 6 years in a row, with 5 series wins (twice to the third round, once to the second).

It could be because, unlike Peters, Desjardins's international teams have been very average.

Gulutzan fired it had to happen, I am relieved for future of this team and my own piece of mind that Gulutzan and his assistant are gone. There was very little to celebrate about this team as whole from what we saw from all 4 phases and that falls back on the coaches direct responsability to get it right to make the adjustments, to fix the problems. They didn't.
Sure there were some individual player accomplishments but not much positive about or from the coaching staff. In order for this roster to succeed the coaching staff change had to be made.

The way I see it Gulutzan was given an incredible opportunity by Treliving and did very little with it.
Treliving even sacrificed the future in major transacations to assist Gulutzan to succeed for the present. It didn't work, with Gulutzan it wasn't working.
Ultimately Gulutzan was the architect of his own demise.
No point saying anything personal about the man, don't kick a man when they are down.
Pehaps he learns from his bench/locker room pitfalls of not only what he failed at as a coach but mamaging his players.

If he gets another chance with some other team down the road i hope he really watches and learns from the current playoff teams and compares the vast difference how they play vs what he was implementing with the Flames.
Said it earlier it didn't and wasn't working.

Now for those above Treliving they have to really give hard consideration, is it really and has it been working with Treliving.

The cool thing if Sutter came back would be the priceless conversations or lack thereof with eric Francis on a regular basis.

I have no idea if Peters is good or not. I do think these players need someone with a lot of credibility. IMO that's what GG lacked, not his ideas.

I think Darryl would absolutely jump at the chance to coach the Flames again. Lots of good pieces, should be a good team for many years with the pieces we have, and close to home.

They have a coach on 960 after each game (usually either Cameron, Jerrard or Gelinas). It took me almost a year to realize that Jerrard was a different person, and not Gelinas.

There are probably some interviews on the 960 site.

If Peters thinks he is all that, he can opt out of the Hurricanes deal and not take another job by Friday, and wait for offers. Granted that would be bold.
