The other fork is that retention killed a deal that was close to done. Personally I’ll believe the retention thing when we see it.

FWIW I heard elsewhere that it was the shopping the deal that killed it. Now maybe the person that said that to me heard it from the same place (or maybe even from here).

Turcotte worries me, he was so hyped going into the draft and hasn't really progressed since then.
He's been passed over by just about every other forward drafted by L.A and has yet to play a full season healthy since being drafted in 2020.
His numbers are also very underwhelming for the pedigree he had, has never come close to a PPG in the AHL.
Yes he's only 22 but he's damaged goods at this point, I'd have a hard time taking him as the cornerstone piece in a trade, at this point he's beyond a reclamation project sadly and his injury history since being drafted makes it that much worse.
I don't see a fit sadly.

At least the shopping around thing makes sense... The only way the retention thing makes sense is if Murray told Conroy retention was a go then when it came to signing the papers he changed his mind. Anyone know if Murray Edwards has a history of reneging on deals?

The Kings don't have any cap space. Even if the Flames were willing to do Max retention they still couldn't fit him in (and the only prospect they have that I would want is Clarke... and that's a really big ask).

Does the joker face mean I have to press F5 all day long on this thread today?

09/10 is the first season that comes to mind:
Jokinen, Phaneuf, Boyd, Lundmark, Sjostrom, Prust, Johnson, McElhinney
Actually the year they traded Gilmour came to mind first but they only dealt 5 roster players that year and 4 were in the Gilmour trade.
After doing some quick looking, the other two seasons were 1990/91 and 1981/82.

Yeah, could be a lesson for a rookie GM to not get too cute if he was close to sealing the deal. If it happened before deal was 70% there then Fitz could just be a bit of nut lol. I hope the real story flows out at some point

The same cuteness got the Flames a better return from Vancouver.

And really who’s to say we lost at this point; lots of time for things to circle back. There is a ton of smoke around Marky which is kinda shocking because I thought for sure it would be a off-season type deal which it still may become, but there is definitely a need for some high calibre goaltending and Marky is playing lights out atm.

Conroy is treating these trades as an auction, not a bid -> evaluate -> award. If he wants to look around the room saying "going once, going twice...." after receiving the latest offer, there's nothing wrong with that approach as he's been open publicly about it. It shouldn't be a surprise to his counterparts.

First, the post was made way too early to be from a Western time zone. This is an east-coast deal.
Second, the sun is hitting the left side of the Joker's face. In the morning on the East coast, that means he is facing south. The deal is definitely in the US.
Third, note that the Joker's green hair and purple suit are silhouetted by the sun to look black. That invokes yellow and black, which are Bruins' colours.
Finally, if you look close, you can see 8 upper teeth and 8 lower teeth in the Joker's smile. That is the number of the player the Flames are getting.
Ergo, the Flames are acquiring David Pastrnak.
Nailed it.
Sorry for not putting a spoiler alert that the beginning.

It also develops rapport with the other teams. To date he's only traded with NJ and Van.

Maybe. It doesn't sound like Conroy went after other teams when the trade was pretty much there, he just really dug in on the condition on the 4th round pick.
If the scenario was the same that Conroy said as how the Vancouver trade went down than Fitz is a bit of a nut. I think it is a different feel if they were mostly there on the deal and then he shopped around again.
I don't blame him for trying to get the best deal but humans are humans and get mad if they think they are being taken advantage of. Although I have mellowed out in my day job, I used to argue down to the penny trying to 100% "win" the deal instead of looking holistically at the trade. Although that is easier when you are trading volume every day.

He literally said Vancouver stepped up with a good offer so he shopped it back to teams that were interested.
Sounds the same to me.
Only difference I see is fans adding texture to a story without knowing anything in addition.

I thought it was just the opposite. I thought there were reports that a number of teams were surprised by the move and not having opportunity to beat the offer. Conroy liked the offer, squeezed on the conditional pick, and pulled the trigger. Other teams didn’t get the opportunity to know the details of what was offered or given a chance to beat it. Asex on media reports after the deal.

There are literally quotes from Conroy talking about taking it back to other teams once Vancouver stepped up.

Sure sounded to me like Conroy circled back with any team that showed interest in Lindholm before pulling the trigger. Not sure where you're getting surprise from. (Now I'm getting flashbacks of the Phaneuf trade which iirc people said was a surprise...yikes)

Conory literally said himself.
He got a call from Vancouver that morning, and they wanted to make a deal and stepped up their offer. He said he owed it to the other interested parties to let them know he was close to a deal and if they wanted to make another offer. No one did so he closed the deal.
It's really not that hard. Not sure why people need to twist words, or make things up. The guy literally shared everything.
