There's been a newspaper app called Pressreader on the iPad for months. $30/month and you can read hundreds of newspapers from all over the world, including the Sun and the Herald. I use it and it's quite good, other than the occasional crashing problem.
I realize some people aren't willing to pay $30/month for anything, but personally I think it's worth it. It also is available on other platforms like PC.

What happens if you use your library card and use pressreader via calgarypubliclibrary.com..............I use press reader via their site to check out the hundreds of papers throughout the world for free.

I enjoy this app. I like finally being able to see SNL skits on demand. I know SNL has highs and lows, but every now and then you hear about a skit and want to see it. This makes it very easy. I really like how they break every skit up instead of making you watch one giant stream.

Live games have been added to NHL gamecenter app as of last night. Currently, it is only in the premium app.Just log in with your GCL account inside the app.
However, in the app details, it does mention a free app for GCL subscribers, so perhaps its still on its way to the App Store.

edit: nm, you're correct ... premium only
I was wondering how they were going to charge $20 for the app and THEN for GCL. Looks like they discount GCL $20 when you upgrade it from within the app.
My question is GCL is offered at both $169 or $21/month. At this point it's cheaper to go monthly ... I wonder if you can choose either option from the app? If you can't then you wouldn't get the $20 off.
Looks like you only get the option to buy the full package, but it's only $100. You'd still save $20 more if you just bought month to month until the end of the season off the website and just signed into the app using that login I think though.

Can't buy month to month. i still think buying it at the "20$" a month will backdate the previous month 20$ payments...since in the small print it says 20$ per month of the season...
However I did get an email from GCL the other day that says sign up at 169 Cad and get a free subscription for a friend.
Here is the promo for that link for those interested
https://gamecenter.nhl.com/nhlgc/sec...NHL1803-267914
Edit: Yep, 20$ a month won't be what it is if you sign up now

You have selected installment billing, you will be billed the Full Season price of $169 CA Dollars in equal monthly installments through July 2011.
|
Usually in january they put on a mid-season discount as well

Ahhhhh, so it isn't so much month-to-month as it is an installment plan? That explains the price discrepancy.
I guess the only other option would be to buy it with a friend then and split it $90 each? Do you recall what the mid-season cost has been in years past?
edit: Let me guess ... $100? Otherwise people who pay $100 via ipad would freak out if the price dropped within a month.

I only remember the "Race to the Cup promo" from last year which started mid feb at around 79$ US, and 100$ CAD. Last year pricing was much higher for the CDN peoplez.
So logically it would be more then 79 US, since thats even closer to playoffs then midseason...
so the B1G1F offer is pretty good since its 90 post tax each
Edit: Probably 120. Since the app is 20 and the GCL upgrade is 100 ? that takes 3 full months off (say 60$) from 169, makes it 109 but then mark it up a little

(A) The NHL Gamecenter Live iPad app seems to only play condensed games, not full games. Am I doing something wrong?
(B) Has anyone ever got Skyfire to play flash videos? I'm still trying to find a way to watch "The Daily Show" on the iPad without paying the multipass charge. However, all I get when I go to comedynetwork.ca is "this page requires flash".

The GCL app wont do archives, only Live. Theres a "watch" icon as well as a "LIVE GAME" icon, but this is for live games only.

Simcity is out for the iPad, and is only 0.99 today. Haven't had a chance to play it, but I grabbed it anyways.
Also, if you are a railroad or model railroad buff, Trainz is available on the iPad. It's $12, but if you've used Trainz on the PC for virtual railroading, this is an EXTREMELY faithful version for the iPad, complete with ready to run layouts, the editor, and everything. Very impressive to see this on the iPad.

I picked up Sim City the other day for $0.99. I've always really enjoyed the games but I've never managed to get my cities too large (I always top out around 75-80 thousand and then they stagnate). The iPad version is pretty good, certainly worth the price I paid.

Did they fix the transit bug? On the iPod you couldn't build highways properly because the offramps didn't work and (to my knowledge) they still haven't fixed it.
Is it optimized for the iPad or is it a straight port?
How long is the $0.99 deal for?

Kobo released their iPad app the other day. It's really really well done with social integration, a fun activity feed ("you're reading during primetime - well done" type things) and interesting stats on how much you read, how fast, etc.
The only problem is that the actual readers don't have all this functionality nor do they synch it and it seems to have a bit of a problem remembering your bookmark across books.

Jailbroke my iPad this morning and put DisplayOut on it. Very useful... works well. I don't know why Apple doesn't allow this in their app store.... I'll now be using the iPad more for presentations!!!
I've been asked by two groups to demo how the Loseit! app and LoseIt! web site work, so this will be awesome. I was worried about 30 to 40 people trying to view my iPad at the same time.
