Why is newtrek obsessed with colour red? Red Matter, Red Angel, Red Door. Is this anti space communism kick?

On the other hand, this exact plot is just a continuation of that Voyager episode "In the Flesh". So there's canonical backing in spades.

I told my wife this morning that I derive AT LEAST 50% of my enjoyment of watching this season by complaining about the non-sequitur plot and constant slamming of my nostalgia center in hamfisted ways. Seems like i'm going to "love" tonight.
