It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them lose every game. The Chicago game seems like an easy W but they did keep Vegas to 1-goal. Either way, the Oil being 1-7-0 or 2-6-0 at the end of October would be full meltdown, fire the coach, fire the GM etc.
It will be glorious.

Probably a bit Optimisitc that they will lose 5/6 or 6/6.
My guess:
Carolina - L
St.Louis - W
Pittsburgh - W
St.Louis - L
Chicago - W
Calgary - L
My guess is they probably go .500 or so over the next 6. But even a 4-5-0 record to start the season isn't very good when 6 of 9 were at home.

Sabres' second goal: Draisaitl gives the puck away at the offensive blue line, coasts back but is actually in position, does a half-assed attempt at a stick lift, lets the guy go, who scores, then gives the "WTF" shrug while looking at the D.
Sabre's third goal: Draisaitl gives the puck away deep in the offensive zone, and doesn't even bother backchecking.
It makes me happy.

These are regular occurrences, he is in the JT Miller / Wheeler category of just caring about points.
And yet, every year, Oiler fans and media suggest he should be in the Selke conversation. Of all their delusions, this one is the most ridiculous, IMO.

Definitely why I said “arguable”. Agreed will see how good the Canes are against good competition.

We won't know until Saturday night.

It's not just a few games. I did the math last season when making my case that Gaudreau had a better offensive year than McDavid.
If McDavid had Gaudreau's average ice time per game, McDavid played the equivalent of 15 extra games. That's nearly a quarter of a season. And he needed those 15 extra games to put up only 8 more points.

Another way to put it....
McDavid scored a point for every 14 minutes and 21 seconds of ice time.
Gaudreau scored a point for every 13 minutes and 14 seconds of ice time.
Huberdeau scored a point for every 13 minutes and 30 seconds of ice time.

other names of interest include Tkachuk at 10, Johnny at 12
then you have Evander Kane at 14. Oilers with 5 of top 43 forwards in TOI , despite playing only at home
Yamamoto has more TOI/G than Huberdeau..he's 6th on the Oilers then the dropoff occurs to the bottom group
|
Pretty much defines the recipe for E=NG .... total dumpster fire.
If our division was stronger, betting on the Oilers to miss the playoffs would be a safe bet to make.

On the Sabres first goal, Draisaitl didn't even make a stride other than the one he made to push out of the face-off dot. He just coasted out to the D-man.

And McDavid's ice time includes more PP time.

This is optimistic.
Carolina - L
* Trademark jersey toss
St.Louis - L
Pittsburgh - L
* Jay Woodcroft gets fired. Glen Gulutzan named interim head coach.

Chicago - L
Calgary - L

McDavid had almost 60 more minutes of PP time than Gaudreau (200 total mins). Crazy with that disparity that he only finished a handful of points ahead of Gaudreau.

Not to mention the special treatment he gets from league officiating.

I would love to figure out a way to include that as well in an easy to compare number.
I think a great PP stat would be how many minutes of PP time per goal... (maybe it's in advance stats) because this counting goals per power play opportunity just makes no sense when 1 power play can be anywhere from a few seconds to 5 minutes - and what happens when a team is down 2 players?

I think you can just do simple PPG/PPPts / PPTOI. These numbers are all accessible on NHL.com.

With San Jose at 0-5 and looking like a 10-win team it would be fitting if Edmonton finished 3rd worst in the NHL and won the Bedard lottery.

If the oilers somehow managed to get into the draft lottery and actually land Connor Bedard the NHL should just fold up shop and call it a day.

Arizona, San Jose and Chicago are probably trembling in fear of Edmonton right now. If there’s one thing you don’t want to go toe-to-toe with Edmonton on… it’s races to pick first overall. Nobody comes close to their supremacy at tanking so they can pick their next shiny new toy. Be afraid tankers. Be very afraid.
