I take it then that the original report of top 3 was false?

What if it's top 10 again in 2026? Do they defer again?

I’m confused. Listening to Treliving, the condition is based Florida’s 2024 1st round pick. It was traded to Philly and top 10 protected. So if 2024, it’s top 10, then Philly gets the 2025 1st, thus pushing ours to 2026. So it has nothing to do with the 2025 placement.
Can someone that is certain confirm?

nope... at that point they keep the 2026 pick. Florida only gets one deferral

No player will ever wear 14 again for Calgary, nor should they. I could care less what he has said or done in his personal life, what he accomplished in a Flames jersey keeps that number as sacred as 9 and 12 imo.

Huberdeau has done more than Gaudreau or Tkachuk, but to offer an 8 year deal to a 29 year old is such a terrible move. You don't want to handcuff yourself given the high price you'll be paying. I'd personally do 6 years at best, at $9.75/season. Takes him to 35. Can't handcuff the team in those older years especially where speed is more and more relevant. I bring the case of Tavares again for those who want a reference to an aging player paid a lot. We have to learn from all our past mistakes.

Here’s hoping they’re bottom 10 in 2025 so we get an unprotected pick in what would be a retool year in 2026….

This seems bonkers to me. Similar to the argument we should have traded Johnny before the deadline instead of getting no assets back. You collect assets to make a run now and then. We had a good shot this year so it's one of the years you push your chips into the pot and hope you get lucky. What's the point of just collecting assets year after year after year?

Honest question, were you ok when they offered Gaudreau $10.5 x 8?

Yeah it’ll be a 7 year contract for sure.
Tkachuk could only sign for 8 in the first sign and trade, I’m guessing the two we got can only sign for 7 then?

But that's why the trade protection comes off and the salary for those years is less. Gives teams a chance to move the contract to a team wanting to hit the floor.

Tkachuk was a free agent, these guys aren't. They can sign for eight.
