I completely agree.

It would be such a Calgary Flames thing to do to hire Darryl Sutter when Alain Vingeault is available.

The Flames could've hired Laviolette the summer they hired Brent - Laviolette went and took the Flyers to the final that year with Brian Boucher and Michael Leighton.

It seems clear that any of the veteran options would have been better than Gulutzan.

The best players on this team would benefit so much from Alain Vingeault. This is a team built to play fast, not heavy. A whole three players on this roster are built to play Sutter hockey.

They have four more years of Gaudreau/Monahan/Tkachuk at reasonable money. They can't waste that trying to force Johnny Hockey to do what Darryl Sutter tells him when Alain Vingeault is sitting right there. Pay that man and get him some faster players.

Feels to me like it's more on the coach, but what do I know. Now, he is apparently going to hire exactly the same sort of coach (in terms of philosophy/tactics), but "meaner", and with exactly the same resume devoid of accomplishments. It could turn out spectacularly of course, but to me it seems like the scenario of the poker player who buys in for $1,000 and proceeds to get outplayed for several hours, loses his buy-in, and reaches into his pocket for another $1,000 because "it was just bad luck and I'll get those guys now". It's called chasing losses, and, sure, things might go differently, but the probability is you will likely lose again. The smart thing to do if you want to keep playing is to move to another table or a lower limit game where your skills might be further ahead.
I admire BT for his commitment to his vision, but I think that in gambling terms, it's a bad bet...
If we're gambling on coaches, there's no safer bet than Vingeault.

Again, if Tre hires an unproven guy, he is again being the smartest guy in the room. That would take cojones.

I really don’t see how he could sell that to ownership, but you never now.
This "smartest guy in the room" stuff is BS. Does he say what he thinks should happen and then he makes it happen? Yeah, because he's in charge. Ive never heard anything come out of his mouth that suggests he has too big of an ego, can't admit mistakes, or is dismissive of contrary opinions.

I've been in the room with Enron guys, where the phrase was made popular. There's nothing like that arrogance about Treliving. Maybe Edwards, but not Treliving.

Poker relates to everything in life... just like Seinfeld.
I am just talking about the aspect of doing the same thing that failed once being a bad bet mathematically. Obviously, there is a lack of information, many nuances, etc, but this is a superficial internet discussion, not a Master's thesis.

If the Flames hire Sutter I am happy. I am worried they hire Bill Peters

So, which coach do you hire?
You have to go with total wins. 6 series won vs. 0 is an easy decision too.

Well as a fan, and based on the limited information available to me, I would love to see Darryl coaching here.

Its no fluke he has had success with every NHL club he has coached IMO. This fragile group needs a coach they can believe in and no other available coach fits that bill better than him.

GG always struck me as a nice guy, and his efforts heading to Saskatchewan following the tragedy certainly affirmed that. So, thanks for that Glen.

I'm sure Cameron/Jerrard are also nice dudes. You don't get to that level in coaching by pissing people off.

NHL coach isn't a position these gentlemen are taking, without knowing you might get the torch and pitchfork treatment.

Poster are excited by what this change means for next year. Expectations weren't met, changes have to be made. Don't mistake that excitement, for joy in their loss.

Most posters are happy that there's a change. There's a few that probably revel in their loss. There's a couple that seem to think GG made decisions just to piss them off personally.

What did Paul Jerrard do exactly on the Flames? We all know Cameron was the PP coach. Was Jerrard the penalty kill coach? Because the PK wasn't bad.... I guess these coaches are a package deal so you fire one you fire them all?

Jerrard had to be fired because he sounded too much like Gelinas.

PK. Also defencemen?

Sigalet and Gelinas weren't GG hires so that's why they stay. I'm not sure they are safe. If a new coach says "I'll sign but I want all my own guys" they might yet be let go or given different roles.
