Well, that tie-break went about as bad as it could for Milos.

Had to win one of those break points. Very disappointing end to that match.

Stan 'The Man' Wawrinka crushed Tomas Berdych 6-1 6-1 earlier today. Next up is Joker versus Marin Cilic.

I think Berdych has mailed it in. Spending time in London with his girlfriend.

if Ester is there, he has absolutely every right to mail in the tennis. much more important things require attention than some silly year end tourney.

also Roger is probably breathing a sigh of relief that his Davis cup buddy has finally risen from the dead, so he might not have to do all the work himself against France.

Speaking of the Davis Cup, the french are getting the venue ready. It will be played on slow red clay at the soccer stadium in Lille. They're expecting 27,000 fans.

I honestly think the strategic choice of clay (because Fed and Stan have been playing so much fast indoor lately) has a coin flip chance of backfiring. mostly due to the fact that at least the Swiss guys have actually been getting match reps. the French guys if they're healthy now can practice all they like but that's no substitute.

could be the most compelling Davis final in many years, would be even more awesome if the extra couple hundred points ended up being the difference for Roger to finish #1. unlikely, but would be wild if it happened.

The french are going with Tsonga and Monfils and I think the clay is more suitable to Monfils' bad knees. You have to play indoor in late November and playing on indoor carpet would favour Federer too much.

6-1 6-1 is a popular score today (Joker trounces Cilic)

Looks like we are destined for a Federer / Djokovic final. Roger had an fairly easy time with Nishikori today.

It's absolutely ridiculous and a testament that Roger is the greatest athlete of our time that he's not only still dusting great players in their prime, but that at 33 in a golden era of depth in the men's game, might still end the year at #1. We bow down to you Roger.

Also means Milos' destiny is in his own hands. Beat Murray and Nishikori and he's in the semifinals. Nishikori also seemed to hurt his wrist.

That stupid Wimbledon movie from 2004 is on TV today...Federer gets name checked in it since he was already a big star and ranked #1 by that point. A freaking decade later, he's still tearing it up in real life. Of all the factors that weigh in on his career, I'd say long sustained excellence is just as important if not more so than the slam count.

At least Milos put forth a better effort than Genie did in the WTA Finals. Needs Fed to crush Murray and to probably crush Nishikori to get thru now.

15-15 in the final game and Raonic is playing a well constructed point. He gets a short ball out wide to his backhand that sits up for him. Any top player has the ability to crush the backhand for the winner. Milos slices the backhand long.

Maybe he needs a 3rd coach who works exclusively on backhands?

Milos withdraws from the event due to a quad injury, and will be replaced by Ferrer. What an oddball for Ferrer, jumps right in and can still actually qualify for the semi's. Crazy if he does it.
