I'm not really sure what's happened with him again. I thought he took a couple of steps forward during 'Arry's second season, but he's completely regressed. Maybe it was the injury, but he's an absolute liability out there. Doesn't close down anyone, can't hit an accurate cross to save his life, his marking is atrocious, and he constantly finds himself dispossessed. I also counted a number of instances where he left his flank completely open and just kind of drifted into the middle, forcing Vertonghen to chase down his man.

It was also pretty baffling to me that Huddlestone kept being given set pieces yesterday when he was so brutally ineffective.

David Moyes. Wow. What a step up in the world.

Much better decision than Mourinho. I was kind of hoping United would snap up Mourinho.

He's a 'smash-and-grab' artist with a short shelf life that tends to leave his clubs in shambles when hes done with them.

He's still the best manager in Liverpool.

You know my opinion of Rodgers, so you'll get no argument from me.

Yeah, Moyes seems to be pretty highly-regarded. I believe Spurs were pretty close to inking him before opting for AVB instead.

Now that I'm looking at it with a more rational, less emotional sense, I actually rate RdM & AVB ahead of Mourinho --- due to his mercenary tactics & shelf life.

you can't say it better than Gary Neville does:

Quote:
I’ve seen some appointments in the last two years which, for me, show the nature of the modern world – a populist, short-term fix. Manchester United do not operate that way. They have an element of sense and they have always had that throughout the last 50 to 60 years.

[...]

People ask how the next manager will be able to replace him because of the comparison. It’s quite simple: play attractive football, bring young players through and win a championship. The fans and club will support you. This is not a stupid football club. This is not one of those crazy clubs that changes its manager every 10 minutes. The new manager will need time and the club will need time to move on, but there are sensible people there.
hmmm, I wonder who those "crazy clubs" are

We'll see how much patience people have if Moyes fails to win anything in his first few seasons. People were calling for Fergie to get the sack in December 1989. I'm not convinced that Moyes will have much in the way of job security if the trophies dry up.

Especially if former players join the backroom staff and are viewed as more desirable

i.e Giggs or Ole

Agreed. My friend shared this with me..

A die-hard Evertonian friend of mine had the good fortune to be seated by David Moyes at an end-of-season awards a couple of years ago. Resplendent in black tie and relaxed by the open-bar environs, the two spent the evening bonding over Goodison Park tales. As the coffee was served, my emboldened pal tapped Moyes on the shoulder and asked:

"The one thing I don't understand is what keeps you at Everton Football Club."

The way my friend retells it, his hero's face went white as his eyes bulged, and his chin jutted out while he leaned in and spat out a menace-soaked response:

"Are you calling me a quitter?"

The manager turned his back on the table and iced his dining companion for the rest of the evening.

Moyes/Rodgers just doesn't have the panache of it that a Man U/Liverpool game feels like it should

will be interesting what Everton do

If they get Martin O'Neill as rumored they would be relegated within the next 3 years, same with Roberto Martinez

do not get the fascination with Martinez, thought it was crazy he was linked with Spurs/Liverpool last year

I think Martinez is a good manager. <shrug>

Moyes apparently HATES LFC, I'm cool with that.

No surprises there, I'm pretty sure that was a mandatory hiring requirement.

So....Everton need a manager do they? Can we sell them Rodgers and take Rafa back?

And, added pressure given that United are now a publicly traded company. That is half the reason for such a quick manager turnaround in announcements is to make sure the stock stayed as stable as possible.

It's actually a requirement, you can't keep information like that private under NYSE rules.
