We'll just circle back in a few years when it'll be even more expensive.

Except for that little matter of the province declaring that there can be no federal funding for municipalities. Stupid UCP.

There are lots of voters in this city who think it was always a misguided waste of money. I honestly don't think this moves the needle much with respect to the prospects of re-election. I would wager most people who are perfectly happy the project is falling apart are UCP voters, and most people mad at the UCP government for killing the project were likely never going to vote UCP anyway.

That's what I mean though. Force them to challenge it, they'll have a complete meltdown

and the CPC know they don't have to do anyting to earn ABs undying loyalty.

Call the UCP's bluff. Get the UCP on record using bill 18 to block Federal funding and make them take the political hit.

From the DM’s…
A source inside the provincial government tells us that the UCP is about to go to war with Calgary!
Allegedly, in order to make sure a certain UCP donor gets his train to Banff, the UCP is taking over the entire Green Line project!
Apparently the UCP believe they can weaponize the green line against @nenshi and the NDP and make their Banff train happen and in order to do so are planning on withholding funding despite Calgary passing a drastically scaled back version.
|
How does this make Nenshi look bad at all? Everyone knows this project will be completed at some undetermined point, the UCP has just made it more expensive by delaying it further.

Yes it’ll be more expensive but you can pretty much guarantee that somebody will earn a cool million or so for the next analysis. My guess is Preston Manning.

Then you know very little about Ontario and Quebec.
Alberta is an afterthought and people don't even care about Doug Ford's Greenbelt corrupt shenanigans let alone transit funding for Calgary.

I'd chip in money personally if they made him grab a shovel and work a regular shift.
The Green Line is fraught with problems, but the biggest issue is the same as most. The longer you wait the more expensive it gets.

City should announce that every Green Line rider woukd have to take a shot of ivermectin before they could get on the train. Busboobs would pay for it then.

So how much have we already spent assuming we had funding from the Province & Feds that's wasted now?
Are Smith/Dreeshan going to pay up for those sunk costs after they gave the city assurances they could bank on the fact provincial funding was "100% secured" and now they've bailed?
Lots of utility work already done, contracts signed (pretty sure that includes some low floor trains we now can't use...), Eau Claire vacated...
What a ####ing waste. #### the UCP. So predictable, so short-sighted, and so disappointing.

About 1.5 billion was already allocated for land acquisition, pre construction prep and train acquisition. Unsure how much of that can be reclaimed from the contracts.

Ah, see, we haven't been playing chess in enough dimensions. The trains will be delivered, and Danielle will snap them up at cut rate auction prices to launch her chain of train based restaurants. This has always been the long game for her, governing was just an easy angle to get there.
