Flames could use their cap space to buy with sweeteners...there are good players that are overpaid. Teams will be looking for cap space.

Obviously they will need to be short term

Dallas fans seem to be really down on Nils Lundkvist. Wonder if he is a target for Conroy in a Tanev deal?

Tanev is a need from a Stars perspective and Nils may fit this team better than he does the Stars.

I remember when Nils Lundkvist was Rangers property and he was putting up Erik Karlsson-esque numbers over in Sweden.

Maybe he could be part of a Hanifin return and then thrive with a bigger role / change of scenery in Calgary ala Sharangovich/Kuzmenko?

And when I say part of a Hanifin return, I mean "part" in the same way Kuz was a "part" of the Lindholm return. Gimme a 1st, and a couple decent prospects too

I would be blown away if we landed a player like Lundkvist

Lundkvist is basically a slightly younger Hanifin who will likely end up being as good or better than Hanifin. No chance Dallas even does 1 for 1 here since with a somewhat down season they will likely sign him to a team friendly bridge deal.

If we go by Cap friendly he is almost in all of thier deals. Most of the time only requesting Tanev back.

I haven't watched Dallas much this season but I would be curious to get thier real opinion on the player.

Shows you how much Texans know about hockey. Tanev 1 for 1 Lundkvist would be akin to Erat for Forsberg, and I’m not trying to take anything away from Tanev either.

Down season? This is his greatest season ever in the NHL. He was recently traded for the 29th overall pick and a 4th rounder. I suspect that is still what his value is, so if Tanev is worth a super late 1st round pick and a 4th you could probably justify that trade. Doubt anyone would give up more for Lundkvist now than what he was traded for 18 months ago.

Marty Biron thinks the Flames should trade Marky.

Forsberg was 19 at the time. Lundkvist is 23 and hasn’t shown much in 3 yrs in the NHL. Not remotely close.

I’ll give you the timelines are a bit off but it would still be a ludicrous 1 for 1 trade if Dallas pulled the trigger.

Kuznetsov seems like such a target. Then you could potentially trade him at the deadline next year with retention, or keep him if he's a good fit as the 1C.

Dis/Sec 214, anything imminent? Was hoping we would have seen either d held out before yesterday’s game? Given what happened to sergachev, hope someone steps up with an offer so we don’t risk injury.

My guess is all parties involved in trying to acquire Tanev are holding their cards close. A lot can also happen in the standings in the next 3 weeks unless you’re a top 5 team in the league asking about him.

Conroy holds all the cards. Team is playing well and trade bait especially doing well. Seems to be lots of interest in Tanev and specialised interest in Hanifin and Marky.

Fair to say if anyone had met his price, these players would have gone by now. So, while it sucks as fans to have to wait, I have faith in Conroy's ability to extract maximum value.

Only way this backfires is serious injury to our players. There's no mitigating that.

If flames can only get a 2nd plus something for tanev. I hope in the deal the flames can include Vancouver 4th and get another 3rd round back too.

Going into the draft with at least X2 1st, X2 2nds and x2 3rds would be some decent selection ammo.

Can't include the Van 4th as it has a condition attached to it, that could see it upgrade to a 3rd on its own.

Nils Lundkvist is being a bit highly overrated right now.
Sure he had some insane pedigree in Sweden but his game hasn’t translated to N.A at all, he’s now 23 and not saying he won’t turn into a player but I don’t foresee the early in Karlsson comparison any longer.

Would be a good complimentary piece, but I’d rather a 1st at this point.
He was once “untouchable” in NY and now he’s in Dallas and looking just mediocre.
I think Kylington has a higher ceiling at this point, and skates a heck of a lot better.

Not sure why calgary would have to include a 4th to get a 3rd. Besides a 4th is basically a 2nd with the team's draft record. Better off keeping it
