Suggested the results may not appear in near term injuries, but debilitating issues when the athlete has this go on for 5 or so years.
You can wear athletes out.
And when you do they may still be in the lineup, but lose say 15% of their speed, etc.

This. It will likely catch up to them.
The oilers have been very fortunate that McDavid and Draisaitl have stayed so healthy over the years. I know the same can be said of other teams whose top players have stayed healthy… but it’s even more fortunate for the oilers because they overplay their golden boys so much and because without them, they are guaranteed lottery team. Can you imagine that team without McDavid for 2-3 months?
McDavid is especially lucky to have stayed healthy. He plays pretty recklessly sometimes by running goalies. He eventually will catch an edge or get tripped and be sliding into posts/boards at top speed. Or goalies… he’s lucky there are no Eddie Belfours or Ron Hextalls in the league anymore. He’d have gotten some blockers and paddles in the teeth by now.

Yeah. They play the equivalent of an extra few games per year… and lots of that time is on the powerplay. The oilers don’t really use a second unit powerplay. McDavid and Draisaitl are out there for 1:40 of every 2:00 powerplay.

According to some on HFoilers its because they are suffering from a playoff hangover after their long run last year. Nothing to worry about. Will be back to the top of the standings by December

other names of interest include Tkachuk at 10, Johnny at 12
then you have Evander Kane at 14. Oilers with 5 of top 43 forwards in TOI , despite playing only at home
Yamamoto has more TOI/G than Huberdeau..he's 6th on the Oilers then the dropoff occurs to the bottom group
|
Sorry to nitpick but Tkachuk and Johnny are both over 21 min a game - ranked 10th and 12th for forwards in the league this year. They are averaging about 3 more min a game compared to under Sutter.
Maybe they wanted out because they weren't getting enough ice? j/k
Huberdeau is averaging 2-3 min less than he did under Sutter.
Sutter is running the team his way and I think we should be thankful for that. Other teams are coached by appeasing their stars and playing them as much as they want it looks like especially the team up north.
Sorry for the sidebar -> Edmonton is still especially no-good. The narrative about last night from Team 1260 is that "they would have won the game 4 out of 5 times if they played the same way". What a joke...

Interesting, but not surprising, things I noticed from last night's Sabres win:
Sabres' first goal: Draisaitl loses a faceoff (4 on 3 shorthanded), but as the only forward, fails to get out high to the D-man. D-man scores.
Sabres' second goal: Draisaitl gives the puck away at the offensive blue line, coasts back but is actually in position, does a half-assed attempt at a stick lift, lets the guy go, who scores, then gives the "WTF" shrug while looking at the D.
Sabre's third goal: Draisaitl gives the puck away deep in the offensive zone, and doesn't even bother backchecking.
It makes me happy.

I wonder if his ankle is still bothering him from last spring. Not sure it helps him being played so much on a bad ankle.

You watch the post-game interview with Huberdeau, and you can just tell he's bought into the ideas. This is not about individual achievement, this is about winning as a team. The way everyone talks, it's about the we. I love it so much.

Lol... the Flames.
I think the Hurricanes are good.... but they haven't faced good teams themselves so far this year. Columbus (1-3), San Jose (0-5), and Seattle (1-2-1).... it will be interesting to see if we have another match up against two unbeaten teams this Saturday in the dome.

Between now and Oct. 31 the Oil play...
Carolina
St. Louis
Pittsburgh
St. Louis
Chicago (2nd half of b2b on the road)
Calgary
It wouldn't surprise me at all to see them lose every game. The Chicago game seems like an easy W but they did keep Vegas to 1-goal. Either way, the Oil being 1-7-0 or 2-6-0 at the end of October would be full meltdown, fire the coach, fire the GM etc.
It will be glorious.

As of today, out of the top 40 minutes/game leaders, there are 38 D's and the 2 you know who's.
So what makes Woody better than his predecessors?
Everytime I watch an Edm game I feel like I'm watching a peewee game 40 years ago when the coach would put his son or sons every other shift!
