Everything worked out okay. It's not like Montoyo is entirely clueless out there. He seems to know the game well but makes a questionable decision now and then. That's par for the course with every single manager. Damned if they do...

Sure, that inning, and the game, worked out fine. That doesn't make the decision a good one.
The Jays were 2 for 14 with runners on base up until that inning. Having his hot bat in the lineup likely would have helped. And if the 6th didn't go the way it did and they ended up losing that game, the loss would have been on Montoyo.
Again... most important game of the year, his two best hitters are on the DL, and he gives his hottest hitter the day off, When there are two off-days coming anyway, and the player isn't even an everyday player.
There is no justifying a terrible decision, just because they won.

Remember when the Jays were among the lowest in the AL in hitting and runs scored? Here is where they stand now:
Runs: 3rd (adjusted for games played)
Hits: 3rd
AVG: 4th
OBP: 4th
SLG: 2nd
OPS: 2nd
2B..: 5th
HR..: 2nd
BB..: 6th
SO..: T 2nd (fewest)
SB..: 5th
Across the board, they are a solid offensive team. I think Dante Bichette's presence has been a Godsend for them.

Oh man. Reading the salt from the Yankees after yesterday’s game gives me pure joy. Blaming the lightning at Sahlen field, tipping pitches, and insinuating the Jays were stealing signs is hilarious. Yankees relievers Green and Otavino complaining that no Jays swung and missed at their stuff is laughable. Didn’t realize they had hall of fame stuff?...Sour grapes from a team that maybe isn’t very good right now. Looks good on those losers.

That's really funny because Otavino was hanging sliders in the heart of the plate all night, but sure the Jays were stealing signs. Also if you can't see the signs from the mound how are the Jays supposed to steal the signs from 2nd base or center field? The whole thing is laughable.

Also, if the Jays WERE stealing signs, why didn't they steal any in the first 5 innings, when they went 2 for 14 with runners on base?

That's the beauty of it. Make them think everything is fine, nothing to worry about then bam!

Brewers released Smoak. A week ago I would said we should pick him up, but with Rowdy playing well and Vladdy needing at bats, I am not sure where he fits.
I would still like him as a defensive replacement or a power bat off the bench. Just not sure how that would work.

I wouldn't bother with Smoak. We already have two 1B/DH types and they are both young and need to play. Tellez has actually looked really good defensively lately too, I really have to hand it to the guy he's done a great job of improving and hopefully he keeps it up.
Playoffs are exciting, but this is still a rebuild and with an already shortened season and the future up in the air, young players who might be a part of the long term plans should be getting as much playing time and at bats as possible.

With the growth of Tellez, and the dead zone at third, I would like to see them move Guerrero back to third, and let the starting lineup be:
Jansen
Tellez - Biggio - Bichette - Guerrero
Hernandez - Grichik - Gurriel
with Panik, Villar, Espinal, Joseph, Shaw and Fisher on the bench

Lineups:
L Biggio
R Bichette
R Hernandez
L Tellez
R Guerrero
R Gurriel
L Panik
R Grichik
catcher
letting guys move up as down, depending who is wielding the hot bat (particularly: Guerrero, Grichik and Gurriel)
That's a pretty decent lineup when they're all healthy

Is the game today not on TV? I'm off today, sitting here with a beer but I don't see it anywhere on the TV. Lame.
