I think God is a lot like Norm Macdonald. Lots of long meandering jokes with a hell of a punchline, but mostly fumbling around with a "well what the #### did you expect?" air about him. He doesn't mean to #### #### up so badly, it just kinda happens.
I've always liked the line..."God is just a kid with an Ant Farm."
If there was an ultimate supreme being....he wouldnt give a #### about us.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Gotta bump this thread before Christmas as a reminder how vile superstitious belief can be, although with a bit of an Islam slant. Not sure if I've seen this discussed but in Aug of this year the Taliban in Afghanistan passed a law to become even more oppressive towards women. Tough to imagine that's possible but they did it. Women are no longer allowed to speak or be heard in public, even if you're in your own home and speak loud enough that someone on the street hears you, you're in trouble. Suicide rates among women in that part of the world has been terrible but they've risen even higher since.
Women’s voices are also deemed to be potential instruments of vice and so will not be allowed to be heard in public under the new restrictions. Women must also not be heard singing or reading aloud, even from inside their houses.
“Whenever an adult woman leaves her home out of necessity, she is obliged to conceal her voice, face, and body,” the new laws state.
Why Trump ever agreed to allow those f'n animals to take back control of that country should be known as a humanity blocker.
Wasn't it Biden who just withdrew from Afghanistan leaving them to their own devices, leaving a bunch of American equipment as well. It was both Trump and Biden who let the Taliban reign free.

In fairness I think theres a lot of blame to go around on that one.

The withdraw was under Biden, but was committed to by Trump when he invited the Taliban to Camp David.

And, as I said, in all fairness was more or less well and truly lost well before that.
Lots of blame to go around. That...was a boondoggle.
Seriously, I'd never seen anything like it in my lifetime. It reminded me of the footage of Americans abandoning Saigon...it was like a beat-for-beat remake.

No, the blame is entirely on Trump. Biden couldn't just back ut of the agreement.

Americans abandoned Saigon 2 years earlier. Afghanistan fell before the Americans even abandoned them.

by the time Biden took office the US only had a few thousand troops left in country, what was holding the tide back was not force but the threat of force, the peace deal destroyed that and so the damn broke, to reverse it would have required sending back in tens of thousands or troops, probably a greater number than had ever been deployed
By all accounts the real failure was giving up Bagram Airforce base and trying to evacuate out of Kabul which was far less secure and so caused the operation to be rushed

Trump signed the dumb deal to get out by May and left it for Biden, when it became impossible Biden extended it by 3 months but it still wasn't enough and s''t hit the fan.
Trump wanted to look like a hero when everyone told him the Taliban and Afghan government would never mix and of course they were right, now look at Afghanistan!

It's wonderful to see such a strong and meaningful debate, but also, to consistently see how an atheistic viewpoint is the most rational and ethical, well...it gives me hope. I will also give kudos and say that many of these christians are very thoughtful and intelligent, which is nice to see.
In the end, religion is always about faith instead of evidence, which is why I can't get into it. Faith requires something that I just cannot do: A belief in something that I cannot see, touch, hear, smell, or taste. God's requirement of our faith without any senses to verify that belief seems like a cruel practical joke. Going back to the original premise of the atheist, "Why would a good God create so much unnecessary suffering?"
To answer that, I leave you with the teachings of one of the greatest philosophers of our time.

This routine was probably why Kevin Smith got him to play Cardinal Glick in the movie Dogma. One of the best comedy movies that challenges/discusses religious bias.
Side note: This year marks the 25th anniversary of that movie and are doing a re-release showings in June.

The mental gymnastics that some of these people go through to justify their beliefs is quite unbelievable. Clearly there has been many many yearsof indoctrination involved to get them to this point. They simply do not have the ability to think outside of their little square box. Almost all of them have different ways to look at their belief system.
This is why I believe that indoctrination of children is child abuse.
