Dollars to donuts he goes on waivers within 12 months.

Nobody says he cant play out his contract here and go Cup Hunting after that, but he'd have to do it more the 'Hossa Method' (the smart way) than the 'Iggy Way.'
Who knows?

The Hossa way barely worked. the only difference between the 2 is that Hossa luckily picked the Hawks, and Iggy picked the young Avs who were awful and had internal conflict.

I think for Backlund legacy and being captain was very important to him. He loves Calgary as a city and as a fanbase. He has the ability to play another 3-5 years and see out another good team. He can look back at his career and be the only Flames lifer, 1st in games played, 4th all time in points, 3-5 years as a captain, and potentially get your number retired. Doubt he thought that would be on the table when drafted. Maybe he is still on this team for a playoff run. Hockey changes, as we have seen with the 2022 team. We are bad now, but maybe in 2 years we are a playoff team again.
Judging by his fitness levels, he can be effective until he is 40 as a 3rd line C. Reminds me of a poor man's Bergeron.
They were talking about how he could've been traded to like Dallas and just be another 3rd liner, and maybe hop on teams trying to win. That doesn't work out always. And at the end of the day nobody would care about him or remember him how our fanbase would.

I could see him sign on for 1 more year after his deal is done to play in the new arena, but nothing long term. He has talked about winning, that won't happen here for the next 3 years.
I don't even think the next jersey retirement is on our roster yet, that is a pretty special ceremony, 3 of the names in the rafters are hall of famers.

I'm very petty and think this is a win for the fans. Agents and players take advantage of teams 99% of the time and get max value and that is their right.
But I love seeing players not take bird on the tree and try to go for the 2 birds..especially when that 2nd bird is probably only 10% more in reality.
Enjoy your 1 year $4.5 million dollar contract lindholm.

Straight up honesty. I like it. Plus a bird on the tree parable with math!
Myself i like seeing people fall on their bikes. I don't know why. I just laugh.
Locking in Lindholm six months ago was painful to imagine at the rumoured numbers. Him turning it down was relief. But then to see him continue to play poorly/have injury concerns that seem to be of the kind that you play through but operate at 80%?
I mean...

Considering how much Tocchet and certain players on the team seem to like Lindholm, I can see the Canucks offering him a deal. When the trade was made, I don't think there was any expectations for Lindholm beyond this season. I think his offensive play has been so below expectation that it has created a situation where he's not going to cost anywhere near as much to re-sign.

Extend Myers and Lindholm! Do it Alvin!
Canucks need to find some offense. 161 goals in the first 41 games and 91 in the past 31. Bottom 10 in the league. The slow, shutdown D only gets you so far.

If signing a kind of bad lindholm to term makes you feel a little better about the fleecing, knock yourselves out.
I personally wouldn't do anything more than another one year. I'd shudder at the thought of this lindholm without the incentive of his next contract to work for.

Would the Canucks be happy singing him to a 7 year 42 million deal ? Seems expensive for liking someone a lot.
Flames seemed to have been happy he got moved. Maybe his contract situation and pouting was the reason, but it seems like he’s gotten worse.

Oh, It'll be a 2-3 year deal. Lindholm isn't getting a long term contract.

I doubt he does that. He’s cost himself enough money.
Playing down the lineup on a cheap deal won’t help him try to recoup his money.
I think it’s either a 1 year deal or long term. Whoever signs him long term will regret the minute the ink is dry.

One year is likely. No one is giving him a long term deal.

Iggy chose poorly 3 times. Chose the Pens, they lost, went to Bruins, they lost, chose Avs, never even made the POs, went back to Darryl and missed the POs.

Crosby got injured his first game. They put him as a left winger with Malkin and Neal. They lose in the conference finals.
Went to the Bruins who lost in the finals the prior year on a good team and they lost in the 1st.
The AVS was a strange one. The Kings team was done by the team he got to them.

I don’t think he said that. He said my it wont cost as much.
He won’t but he should take a peek July 1st he may find a dummy GM giving him a long term deal.

I don't see why he doesn't do exactly that.
There's bound to be at least a couple gms who still see the selke guy in him or think they can get that out of him.

If Columbus hadn’t moved on from their GM, who’s name I don’t want to try and spell, this would have been the play for sure!
