Good point, but I think in Monahan's case he lost two very good teammates during his draft year (Toffoli & Prince). That doesn't appear to be the case with Konecny, but like you said he doesn't seem like he has much help on that team either year.

Yikes.
Ah yes, the old 8 pieces for 3 swap you see so often throughout NHL history.

Also it's interesting to note that Voracek apparently has more trade value than Crosby. Good to know.

I was going to put this in the CP mock draft poll for #52 and #53 but that thread is closed now. I know he’ll likely be gone by 52 but if Nicolas Meloche is somehow still around at #45 he would be a great pick. I can see him going early in the 2nd round though. I would expect Noah Juulson and Vince Dunn to both be gone by 45 too. We’ll likely have a better shot at Travis Dermott or Matt Spencer, both of who would be decent 2nd round picks as everything I’ve seen of them seems glowing, with some saying Dermott could be a steal in the 2nd round.

What everyone’s thoughts on Rasmus Andersson? His stats seem impressive, and he’s known as a very offensive defensman. He should be available at 45, although I have seen his ranking differ quite a bit in various rankings.

Andersson at 45 or 52-53 is a thing that should happen. I've been following him since the 2015 NHL scouting staff released their who to watch list after last years draft. He's trending the right way but dropped in the rankings all year.

The reason Andersson is dropping is that a lot of scouts don't think his offense will translate into the NHL (i.e. in their opinion he is doing things that you can get away with doing in junior, but won't be able to do at the next level)

That's fair. Good risk reward with any of the 2nd round picks if you can snag him. First round talent IMO. Lots of risers in the last half of the hockey year pushed him down as well but he really didn't do anything to drop his ranking either.

There are better players in round 2 than Andersson. If he's on the board at 75/83 then they should snap him up then.

Some of that can be half predicted. If you ever see a big, skilled centre rated in the teens they will probably go higher. That year I was hoping Scheiffele or Zibanejad would go outside the top 10, both were rated just outside of it. But what happened? All the centres went early that year, all of them went top 10.

Years like that are why I have my philosophy that big centres will often go higher.

How does that apply to this year? If a team feels Connor projects as a centre I think he could go top 10. Zacha probably won't fall out of the top 10 and may go top 8 even. Centre is more important of a position than the wing and some teams will prioritize it and end up ranking centres who are close to winger above them on their list. Zacha is a bit weird in that some scouts feel like he might be a winger but there's probably a team or two in the top 10 that see him as a centre.

So my prediction is that Zacha is a surefire top 10 pick and that Connor may go top 10 and is unlikely to fall out of the top 12. Joel Eriksson-Ek may go top 20 as a big, skilled centre.

Man, if he dropped to the 3rd round, I hope management gets him (assuming we don't pick him with a 2nd).

If those ended up being our picks, that would be a home run to the 5th deck of skydome.

Can't wait for the draft. This management group is running like a well-oiled machine and I have no doubt they are going to select very good players.

Such a turn-around from the draft debacles of the not so distant past, as referenced in Bingo's article.

the idea of LA adding Kyle Connor makes me sick to my stomach.

Some profiles from Redline Report

Ivan Provorov
Timo Meier
Pavel Zacha
Dylan Strome
Nick Merkley
Brandon Carlo
Colin White

Colin White is a guy we haven't talked about a lot. Both him and Eriksson-Ek might be two possibilities at #15 for the Flames.
