Does the cancer centre count? And we would've gotten a superlab to avoid the current Dynalife debacle until the Unsane Clown Posse cancelled it.

New arena is going to price out a lot of people, especially in this time of inflation.

I among many others on here don't like when it devolves into right vs left political debate (people think i care what side of the fence they sit on apparently).
But talking about the merits of public money on a sports venue is pretty much down the fairway for this hockey forum.
Hard to argue with widely held economists' views....subsidies to owners is not a good way to allocate money for GENERAL public benefit.
HOWEVER....if you are a fan and want to see the team do well, you maybe don't mind taxpayer money thrown at something in your direction. Does it generate incremental measurable value? Nah. But maybe as a fan and cynical citizen you knew that money was going to end up somewhere and would rather it be on a hockey arena for the team you cheer for vs giant blue ring art things, etc

Hope they save the money they didn't get to spend going to a game in the new arena so they can use it for their doctor visits.

Were the Hitmen, Globetrotters and Circus at risk of not being able to use the Saddledome? I had not heard about the Hitmen threat to leave and go to the lucrative market that is Cranbrook.

The Saddledome is falling apart...like chunks are actually falling from the roof
It's days are numbered

I think I paid $90 a ticket to go to the Circus this year. Thankfully the Sens played their rookie goalie in his 3rd start.

I remember when chunks started falling off the Big-O in Montreal. That was almost 40 years ago and the stadium is still in use.

That's pretty sad, because it only opened 47 years ago. Sounds like it had some major flaws and wasn't necessarily deterioration due to age if it was falling apart when it was still practically a new stadium. It would make sense to spend money to keep it going at that point.
With the Dome, it could easily just be a money pit to try and prevent it from deteriorating further. The costs would probably require raising ticket prices anyway.

I personally think Murray getting blown by the city and province is terrible and the arena money should be earmarked towards affordable housing. However, arguing with the pro-Murray side is like arguing with an anti-vaxxer. I still haven't seen a single article/study put forth by the pro side that supports their argument that cities benefit economically from subsidized arenas but they hand wave it away because they really don't care about the economics and just want to make sure the Flames stay in town.
Just be honest and don't hide behind crappy economic arguments.
