Color me surprised that an 11-5 team didn't make the playoffs. Hats off to New England for their efforts this year.

I was a bit happy that Dallas missed the playoffs, there will probably be some substantial changes coming in Dallas due to the team moving into a new building.

Poor Jeff Garcia, I tend to think that this was his last year in the NFL, and to lose to Oakland and miss the playoffs because of that. What a terrible way to end your career.

Brett Favre is an awesome QB, but he just couldn't sustain it this year over the whole season and looked exhausted in the end. Maybe the BowFlex workout isn't the way to go. Looks like the worst move in the NFL this year was sending Pennington to Miami where he had a career resurgance.

Oh did I mention Dallas is out, when do we get the tearfull Owens presser?

Question for the CP faithful. Hypothetically speaking, if you owned an NFL team and it went 0-16, would you clean house or promote people?

http://www.detroitlions.com/document...ment_id=479753

Tom Lewand has been promoted from COO to President, and Martin Mayhew has been given the permanent position of General Manager.

Unbe-freaking-leivable.

The issue with the Bucs is the defense got old as soon as Kiffen announced he was leaving. 3 of the last 4 weeks they gave up 30+ points (all losses). Talk about mailing it in.

Favre seems like a QB who tries to do too much. If he can play within the team's system, he does well and is one of the best in the game. But it looks like when he thinks the game rests on his shoulders, he tries to force the ball way too much. Then he either looks like the hero or the career INT leader. Favre can still be an elite QB if he is on a team that is only missing a QB. He will push a team over the top. What Favre can't do anymore is carry a team.

And I LOVE the Owens drama in big D. Hey Jerry, good luck keeping your fans happy as you move into a billion dollar new stadium with outrageous seat licenses during the biggest economic downturn of the past few decades, and you running your team like you are building a Yahoo Fantasy Football team.

The thing is that 0-16 is only one season, a bad season but it is only one year so you have to look to previous years and evaluate that. This is when it becomes a true headscratcher! This type of losing has been going on in Detroit for well over a freaking decade. I don't know the roles that these guys played, before or how long they were with the team. But I would think that if I owned the team I'd be looking for the best Football executive I could get my hands on and let him have complete autonomy and hire all positions that relate to football.

Tom Lewand was the COO, who reported directly to Millen, and they were pals as well.
Martin Mayhew was assistant GM, and was bumped up to GM when Millen as given the boot.

So BOTH have been with the franchise through all these loosing seasons. This franchise is turning into a joke and I feel VERY bad for their fans. But as a Viking fan, I can't help but smile that with these two clowns keeping their job, medocrity will continue for the Lions.

Holy cow, Martin Mayhew's wiki entry has already been updated.

Maybe he got the job because he already fleeced Jerry Jones out of the Cowboy's 1st, 3rd and 6th round draft choices?

Turning into a joke? I think if you looked up joke in the dictionary there would be a Detroit Lions helmet beside it. I'm sure the Lions fans on here would agree. Its not like this team has fallen from grace over the past few years. This is a team that hasn't done a thing since the 1950's. By promoting someone from within after the worst record in NFL history just sums up the entire reason the Lions have stunk for so long. The ownership is the problem here. As long as fans continue to spend on the Lions the Ford's will continue to conduct business as usual. Which won't help the Lions win anytime soon.

The Cincinnati Bengals would be another fine example of ownership keeping the team down. Where every front office position is taken up by a Brown family member. I'm surprised a Brown isn't the head coach of the Bengals.

Easily Denver's worst defensive game of the season. Perfect timing. In a way I'm happy because it might ensure the defense is gutted. Save a couple of the young guys on the D-Line and Champ and replace everybody else. I'm even ready to let go of DJ Williams at this point, he's been absolutely brutal since coming back from his injury a few weeks ago.

The offense was fine, a couple of drops again, but they moved the ball well. San Diego made two great plays to get the INT's. Marshall should've been underneath on the throw to the end zone.

Will be an interesting off season in Denver. If they can fix the defense they'll be in the mix next year.

I know with the youth on the offensive side of the ball, they are on the cusp of greatness there. The offenseive line is as good as they've ever had IMO and it's extremely young.

Good luck to Philip Rivers and the Chargers....I'll be rooting for you. NOT!

It's a shame the Vikings got in really.

Now Childress is safe.

Arent the Broncos currently on their 3rd DC in 3 years now?

Maybe its time to look at Shanahan....after all, all this has been under his direction.

Does anyone think its a complete and utter joke that Favre is going tot he ProBowl.

Way to lead your team in interceptions then choke down the stretch only to miss the playoffs.

I am a Broncos/ 1/2 ass Pats fan, not a good day yesterday.

Belichek should be getting coach of the year. To finish 11-5 with a backup QB. Wow.

While I feel the same way, Childress has actually done a decent job as of late.
It's no secret I despise him as a coach and heavily criticized his play calling earlier this year. But they've actually mixed it up effectively since October.
Now we'll see if he keeps that going against his old team. I'm worried about Johnson's blitzing and Jackson's reaction to this blitzing, he seems to be a QB that needs some time to make decisions. See what the "QB Guru" Childress does.

And yes, I should have said this franchise will continue to be a joke....just thought I'd be a little nice to the Detroit faithful.

I hear a "defensive genius" is available.

Yeah.

But why would you look at Shanahan, because he hired the DC's?

He's safe for now, Bowlen isn't a knee jerk kind of guy. He sees what they're building and is on board.

The players on defense are to blame. They need to do a better job scouting defensive players for sure.

I'm not a big fan of firing good coaches. Tennessee was reportedly close to canning Fisher last year and look at what he's done this year. I like stability and I think it's sorely lacking in the NFL and that's why a lot of teams are perpetual losers.

He still looks like the star pupil of Herm Edward's school of clock management.

There have been some rumours for a few weeks about TO sulking because he isn't getting the ball enough, complaining to the rest of the WRs that Whitten is getting the ball so much because he rooms with Romo.

I'm sure we'll hear from TO again anytime now.

Oh, that stuff. I thought it was all media hyped-up. Didn't really seem to be a big deal.
