At least my Jeep is in the garage in the back and I can get around in that and maybe use it to pack the pile down.

There is a special place in hell for people who shovel snow onto roads. Especially when the roads are already covered in deep snow.
And yes, I am aware that it is only illegal to shovel private property snow onto public roads (like driveway guy). But even putting public sidewalk snow onto the roads right now is a dick move.
The same people probably whine that the city hasn't plowed their side street yet.

But if you throw all the snow in front of your sidewalk then maybe your dirty neighbors can't park in front of your house and take "your" parking spots.

Yeah I expected coming in from Airdrie to be much worse, QE2 wasn't bad and Stoney in the NE had 2 out of 3 lanes clear. Then we got lined up behind snow plows three wide going down 16 Ave so no issues there either.

Strongly disagree. If I live beside a struggler who doesn't have winter tires I truly don't care if he gets stuck in front of my house. I shovel the city sidewalk directly onto the road. If I don't, when melting season comes along the snow will melt from my lawn onto the sidewalk and then it will ice up at night.

I don't normally shovel the sidewalk snow onto the road but I shovel both neighbour's sidewalks and this morning was too much so I had to throw it out into the street. I have a sedan with low clearance and the more snow on the road the bigger the pita.

If they plow it up on my driveway they are getting it right back.

We have a parking lane, so that’s where the some of the sidewalk snow goes. With a wide sidewalk the half closest to the lawn goes on the lawn and the half closest to the street goes there. I’ll regret it on Thursday/Friday when I have to prop the blue bin on top of a snow windrowe, but that’s a later me problem and I just wanted to shovel before it got trampled by pedestrians all day.

Even with the right tires, some residential roads are barely passable right now. I can't fathom adding even more snow to roads right now - it just doesn't make sense to me.
I understand the melting issue - I deal with it as well, and I get annoyed every time I need to throw salt and gravel down during the thawing and freezing. I just don't think that making the roads worse for everyone else is the solution either.
I can see by the "thanks" count that I'm obviously in the minority here. Maybe "dick move" was a bit harsh and should reserved for those shovelling their driveways onto the road.

Even with today's snow, I don't see pushing from the sidewalk onto the road as making a meaningful difference. I suppose if you clear your entire driveway onto the road, it might have an impact, but that seems terribly inefficient (vs to the sides of the driveway) and still doesn't seem like it should be an issue.

I shovel the snow on the road in front of my driveway to the space in front of lawns. I also put sidewalk snow there. Makes it much easier to get in and out of driveways as the road packs down. I live in two car garage suburbia so every house has 4 parking spots already so I don’t care id I am destroying a parking spot doing it.

Yeah, when the snow piles on the sides of my driveway are approaching and exceeding my shoulder height, it's time to start using the road in front of my lawns. It's only really getting in the way of one neighbour who has junk filling up their garage so they need to park on the road, so I don't feel too bad. I'm not throwing the snow far enough to actually be on the road in the way of moving traffic.

I think some people may be overestimating the amount of snow that a residential sidewalk adds to the road.

Deal with this constantly on our street. Couple houses, across the street from one another, appear to be in competition to see who can relocate as much of their driveway snow onto the road.
When an SUV is snowplowing through the road you know you're dealing with idiots.

We had one year where the roads were really built up with ice and one guy brought a bobcat home from work and scraped it all down to the bare road.. but only in front of his house. Stuck all the ice on the sides as much as he could, but the narrowing from the huge piles plus the curb height transitions was way worse than just having a bumpy icy road.
He went out and tried to give the edges a bit of a ramp but it was still super annoying until things melted again.
Not sure if the city gave him a talking to but he never tried that again.

I went to run some errands today and took special care to ensure I drove in the sh-ttiest, snowiest lanes and tried to stay within the lane markings to pack that crap down and make it easier for everyone to get around. That's my public service, you're welcome. It was a blast.

The sidewalk, probably not much of a difference. On an adjacent street, a bunch of people shovel everything onto the road, and it makes the street level about a foot higher than the sidewalk. Then it starts to melt and where cars drive, it melts faster than the curb lane and there's a huge embankment making it difficult to pass two cars with cars on the side. Then it melts even more and water flows to the lowest point which is their sidewalk and 5 feet up their driveways. Then it freezes and they throw way too much gravel down where it stays forever.
