Whether it’s fair or not, how the Flames and Gaudreau do in these playoffs is going to factor into his new deal in a big way - whether it’s with the Flames or someone else.
If the Flames get knocked out early and Gaudreau doesn’t do much, I can’t see a team offering him more than $8 million a year on a 6-year deal.
If the Flames go deep and Gaudreau contributes he’s very possibly going to get the 8-year, $10 million a year contract people were talking about in the regular season.
It sounds nuts, but a poor playoff run could easily cost Gaudreau 10s of millions.

I don't think it is crazy. I think Johnny has been ok but I was going to mention after game 1's win, as soon as the playoffs starts Johnny starts making decisions with or without the puck that prevents him from taking a big hit. In the playoffs the refs are letting very late hits go and they do every year. If Johnny thinks he might get hit he is getting rid of the puck too quick. These passes aren't making through the center of the ice and often going back the other way. Unless he starts playing like he did in the regular season or close to it I don't see him as a 10+ mil player.
Oettinger played well but he really wasn't challenged either. Hopefully Johnny can figure it out and really Tkachuk hasn't been great either. Lindholm is the best player on this team
Of course it really sucks because if the Flames don't fork out the cash Johnny walks and Tkachuk will be gone soon too.

b) "loves records"
c) "really hates to lose."
It may mean nothing, but it certainly sounded promising to me.

He also said right before that......"talking to Johnny...they just wanted to wait to get through the season". I thought it was mutual to hold off on a deal, but this attributes more of the delay to JG than BT.

Success in the playoffs - gets you paid
Potential for success in the playoffs - can get you paid
Consistent failure in the playoffs - you don't get paid

Unfortunately Johnny still hasn’t shown he is elite in the playoffs. Great at racking up regular season points and selling jerseys. If that’s worth a big payout then fine but I still wouldn’t include him in plans to build a team that can go deep in the playoffs.

Top 3 paid players in the league have had zero success.
And that's not what I'm saying.

A thread about their future value is highly relevant at this time.

At this time? Ya. I mean if there's rational conversation to be had, it's right at this very moment.

I'd sign Tkachuk and Gaudreau in a heartbeat so many whiners on here.

There’s no way the Flames are gonna just let both Johnny and Chucky go even if they play bad these playoffs. Brad’s still gonna try to work his magic to get them both signed

Taking a while to get to 5000

Yep, weirdly enough if things don't turn around the Flames likely get a break on the deals for both.

Or they get fed up of playing for a cursed team and go play somewhere else
Tbh it’s kind of a win win, either they stay for cheaper or they leave and a tank is possible

As I step back from the ledge this morning...I still wonder what the future holds for this core. We are truly in the bottom of the 9th with this group now.
A first round exit will dictate terms more favorably if we want to stick with them. But not sure that will be the right move for the next decade given the length of the contracts involved.
Re-sign Gaudreau but don't go over 9 mill. If he won't accept that Tre will have a super tough decision to make. He is not worth more given how ineffective he is when it matters most. Playoffs are built for players who can handle the hits and stiffling defending. Johnny would be fine as part of the core if he was not the center of our offense. But he is...
Tkachuk is a distraction for this team right now. So evident in this series. Too slow and mentally immature. Won't take less than 10 mill. Deal him if there is a great suitor. Gives us room to sign everyone else. Unless he too will take 9 mill.
What a mess for Tre. This core disappoints over and over again.
We give up huge draft capable for Toff and Jarnkrok and they do absolutely nothing for us in the playoffs and Oil picks up Kane for nothing who is leading scorer right now. The hockey gods are being exceptional cruel to us yet again...
Of course all is well if they can come back and win this series and more. History says that won't happen but Sutter does not care about history.
Johnny and Chucky show us what you got right now! There is no more crucial a moment that defines the direction of this franchise for years to come.

No contender is going to or have money to sign a guy that can’t handle the playoffs
7-8M for Johnny
Tkachuk is still going to get his money base on the name branch

Every other team is going to bring up their playoff performance too.
