Openly racist. Corporate stooge that prevented his co-workers from advancing or even getting basic work benefits like time off or medical coverage. Big ol' Liar.

I just leaned this minute that Eric was Eric Francis. How did I not know this?
I think that's why he gets some pushback. (Not that it's not deserved in other ways) It's like if Skronk, from the Skronk and the Squirrel Monster Rush Hour Happy Time, suddenly becomes a serious journalist.

People also felt he got his job because of his mom.

We used to listen to them a fair bit, on drives back and forth to the hospital or specialist appointments, when my daughter was having a lot of difficulty with her health. Guaranteed, they'd elicit a giggle or three, at some point. Matt always seemed like a good guy.

It was the other way around with Francis. He had been writing at The Sun for a number of years before he started at Jack.

Which has always been a weird thing to me.
The guy has had a successful multi-decade career. Do we really think his mom is still a factor in his success, if ever she was?
And it's not unusual for someone to get an initial foot in the door from some sort of contact, including from a family member.

It might have helped him decide his career path and even give him some early connections, but that only gets your foot in the door sometimes. No one hired him because Diane Francis is his mother. It may have been a good way to meet people in the industry, but that's about it. She is a brilliant journalist, but I don't see her at someone that would put pressure on people to hire him or keep him around. It's kind of insulting to her to be honest. Like if he got released, I don't think the headline would read; "Diane Francis's Son Fired.
Personally, I think he does a good job. Decent television presence, knowledge of the local team, and keeps the broadcasts flow going. Like others, I don't like some of his pessimistic hot takes, but he seems to have mostly cooled down on that these days.
