I would expect that his agent will very quietly tell the Oilers that he's not interested in staying with the Oilers and if they don't deal him, he will look at European possibilities for next year. They're not getting a good asset for him, GM's aren't that dumb to give up that much for what is rapidly becoming a reclamation project.

I winced when the Oilers drafted Puljujärvi. We had an interesting conversation with my brothers. I told them that the Oilers were going to destroy him, one way or another, whereas they we're telling me no way, he'd be playing with McDavid and scoring lots of points. Hah.
I think Team Finland should sue Edmonton for ruining what should have been a mainstay on our national team for years to come.

Its an illusion. They have won in spite of themselves, and every team has hot streaks. If they keep allowing Talbot to get barraged, if they keep grinding McDavid at 25 minutes a game. If everyone not named McDavid and RNH, and even Draisaitl though his underlying numbers are trashed is willing to sit in the dressing room and mumble to themselves, who cares, Captain individual mcGlory has got this they'll crash to earth like a 50 year old valuejet 727.

Pronman hands out letter grades to each team after each draft for The Athletic. He just re-graded his 2016 draft based on performance since then. I assume so he could inflate the Leafs' grade to an A+.
https://tinyurl.com/yabc4g33
The three biggest fallers were the Rangers (B- to D), Canucks (B+ to C-) and Oilers (A- to C+).

The main Oilers topic from this class is Jesse Puljujarvi, the fourth overall pick. I have given full endorsements of that kid for years, but it’s become clear to me recently I may have overrated certain aspects of his game.

I was a huge fan of Olli Juolevi, the fifth-overall pick by Vancouver, at the time of the draft. Since then I’ve adjusted my position on him as it’s become clear he may not be a future top defenseman.

Tkachuk pick looks better and better.

Now that would set an interesting precedent, you could basically get all National Teams in on that and make it a Class-Action.

Yeah, I get that defencemen sometimes take time, . But top defencemen don't take that long usually, even if they're not Hedman or Dahlin. Look at Valimaki. Look at Sergachev, Chychrun, McAvoy, all chosen after Ollie, playing regular minutes.

Bet none of them have won a Victory Royale like Ollie.
I know this is the Oilers thread, but this is too good to pass up and not post

Calgary 2026. Using Oilers fans money to make Calgary better. If for no other reason vote Yes for that fact.

McDavid only has 2 more points than Matthew Tkachuk and McDavid has seen over 34 more minutes of ice time in 2 less games played. Actually insane.

So the Oilers burned a year off his ELC since he is past the 9 game mark. Everyone knew he would be in over his head, and now a year of ELC has been burned away for no reason. And Bouchard is back to Junior anyways.
Oilers did the same thing with Draisatl in his 1st year, and that caused a domino effect where he now has a crazy contract that could have been delayed a year later.
Poor asset management.

He only played 7 games - somehow the Oilers managed not to screw this up....

False, you actually have to play the 10th game to burn a year of contract. Being on the roster only matters if you are there for 40 games, then you burn a year until UFA status.

Bouchard is ok, but he really needs to get some skating lessons, maybe start with a chair that he can hold onto and go from there.
He stood out for good and bad reasons. Offensively he has some very good moments. He's a bit of a fire drill in his own end, and his edge work and turns are terrible.
He has a ways to go to become anything more then a bottom pairing powerplay specialist.

All correct. I actually think it's dumb though - you could keep a rookie up for 39 games, but only dress him for 9, and then send him down, which wrecks his season, and hurts his junior team's season. It should be 10 games played or, say, 15 games on the roster.

Baffling that they got this right. On the flipside they don't have any other defensemen that can step into that spot, so I guess McDavid is gonna have to do that as well.
