We should leave those interserctions as is and just throw every penny at the Crowchild/Memorial/Kensington gongshow. I rarely drive that way, but man, looks like a daily sheetshow.

BOOOOOO. Not only is that a very busy pedestrian crossing, it's almost one of the more dangerous in the city. Taking away that crosswalk is just going to result in people jaywalking instead and getting smoked by cars.

Waiting to cross Edmonton trail to cross N/S is not a reasonable option on a major pedestrian corridor. If you can't wait for a couple people to cross the street before driving through, try an alternative mode of transport to work.

I use a couple modes. Some days its my truck and other days its a motorcycle. To be completely honest though, its not the inconvenience it causes me, its that traffic just backs up there in general. Basically I'm fixing other peoples problems!

It just seems silly to have one turning lane there and traffic backs up when there is a crosswalk on the other side that could be used? Maybe they should have a designated pedestrian "light" there, or advanced left hand turn signal or something?

I think an advanced left is perfectly reasonable. I drive this stretch a lot and if it's busy I just take a sneakier way onto Memorial east.

If you want to make intersections as efficient for vehicle traffic as possible, you'd eliminate one of the crosswalks on every single one.

For the most part it's not done as it is a PITA for pedestrians, and also the aforementioned jaywalking issue can make it more dangerous.

Came here to complain about the stupid engineers trying to put more lights on Barlow. And see that its already been covered.

As it sands now the North Section of Barlow is probably one of the most reliable rush commutes in the city. you can pretty much drive near the speed limit the whole way, catch most of the lights and accidents don't cause a huge ripple effect on the road and surrounding areas.

So what are we going to do, add two more lights near the busiest section of the road?
WTF

Check out the new Operating and Capital Budget Dashboards. A pretty cool tool.

On Edm Trail, memorial drive - not sure what difference it would make, but send me a request via email and I can get it looked into.

edit: Looks like transportation already shot this down, thank god haha.

"
YYC Transportationan hour ago Just a point of clarification - the crosswalk flags are not an active initiative being considered by The City at this time. They were discussed in a committee meeting yesterday in acknowledgement to a comment by a Councillor.
The flag concept is one of several potential tactics that could eventually be used by communities or schools to help improve safety – but we see this as a community-led
and community-owned initiative, rather than something that would be implemented
city-wide.
We often work with Community Associations and schools to provide educational materials and shared resources to help improve safety at crosswalks. The flags could eventually be presented as a possible tool for individual communities – but that is very much dependent on the findings from other municipalities already trialing this initiative"
I agree - it's a dumb idea.

Bunk, what happened with the glass on the Peace Bridge? There's a couple of the big pieces cracked. Was it weather or vandalism?

Not sure, but I'm curious too. I'll try to find out.

Bunk- Why did the city block the road/exit from 17th Avenue to Calgary Academy? No one seems to see the point and it makes getting to the school a massive pain!

My guess would be that it will be too close to the (future) ring road. Province restricts how close an intersection/access can be.

They seemed to be getting replaced/repaired at first, but there's a ton more out or broken now, so I just assumed they gave up on it.

The Peace Bridge being "nice" is debatable.

Inexcusably expensive, yes.

Nice? Debatable.

Grumbling about Peace Bridge and used "silly hall" in a sentence a few posts back. Holster your BB gun, Rick, and let me show you the way back to the Sun.
