I've read that recyclers use a crowbar to remove the batteries because of the adhesive before shredding recycled laptops.
iFixIt has an adhesive removal chemical kit, but they can't/won't ship outside the US
https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/i...ve/IF145-400-4
I probably wouldn't bother trying without some kind of chemical to dissolve the adhesive.. heat, you'd probably need enough that the batteries would explode considering they're attached to what amounts to a giant aluminum heat sink.

I mean holding it, so that I don’t have to regrip depending on where I want to touch the screen, AND hold it securely between the tips of my fingers and my palm.
I mean it would be possible if I put a centre peg on the back of the case, but then it can’t fit in my pocket nicely.

Okay. This is getting annoying. I have two friends with Android phones and I am getting read receipts from them. Is this something on my end or their end that is causing this? We both claim that we have the “read receipt” settings turned off. In one situation I get read receipts when i send a picture, and the other is any text message.
It basically says “Your message to xyz has been Read.”

I experience the same thing. I have an iPhone 8, the Mrs. has a Galaxy S9.
I get read receipts from her, seemingly at random. And when I send her pictures I've taken with the camera -- as recently as this Friday where I was showcasing the newly insulated garage walls I did -- she reports she's unable to open them.
That was on iOS 11.4. I've recently upgraded to the public beta of iOS 12, so we'll see if that has any impact.

Under camera in settings there is an option to change the photos to most compatible vs high efficiency. Make that change and the android peoples will be able to see the pictures you take. They will be 20 to 40% bigger in file size however.

A bigger one? Why not a smaller one? Like have said, my iPhone 8 is bigger than I’d like.

I used to think my 6S+ was a little too big but I think I could actually handle a larger phone.

Just caught a few highlight clips from the event. I absolutely love how shy Apple was about announcing portrait mode on the Xr budget phone.
"Uhhhh here's something.... That whole two camera system? Don't need it anymore! Sorry for the extra lens on our other brand new phone. PS buy that one anyway it costs more."
The rinse and repeat model they have going is really sad. No genuine excitement anymore.

I'm excited about a $2000 phone!
Admittedly the 7nm technology of the new chip is pretty cool.

At some point people are going to realize these prices are getting insane, and stop paying Apple for them, right? Right???!! Sigh.

Almost all new phones are $1,000+ now if you don't want to sign up for an expensive 2 year contract. Next time I need a new phone I may go the used route.

Only if you want the fancy "flagship, give us all your money" phones. Oneplus, the Essential phone(after the price drops), and some others are more in line with reality. And most people would probably be just as happy with a $200-$300 phone. Hell, my Nexus 4 still works OK.

Even then the Oneplus is $700-ish.

Yes, well I'd consider $700 the high side of reality. It's not $1000! Realistically I think a decent price for a usable phone with decent features should be under $500.
I keep thinking Apple will price themselves out of the market with these things, what parent wants to buy their kid a $1000 phone? And if you can't get them young, you risk losing them to Android. Clearly Apple is making boatloads of money so they are doing something right, but a the same time their market share continues to decline.

Yeah Apple is banking on having the latest greatest iPhone as a status symbol to drive sales of these new models.
If this was the auto industry, Apple would have done a spin off brand. One brand for a luxury line and one brand for a more affordable line.

I don’t think that worked so well with the 5C experiment, did it?

ALL ABOARD!

$1000 is a lot of money, don't get me wrong. But this is also a device you're likely to use 40-80 times a day (at least I do). My 6s is still going strong after 3 years but I'm going to upgrade to the XS. The photos are much, much more improved over my 6s. I'll get another 3 years out of this one and see what they have to offer then.
I think the majority of people are past wanting to get a new phone every year. They're mostly iterative upgrades at this point so the leaps in tech we used to see aren't going to happen anymore.
