As for other Ward 13 stuff, I'm likely to vote for Sandy Jenkins mainly because he isn't Dianne Colley-Urquhart, but also because his comments about infrastructure, and the SW Ring Road, are good. I literally can't find anything what DCU's platform ideas were for these things, other than endless news articles with her agreeing with residents about rejecting it, and then "SAVE SHAWNEE SLOPES!!!" a hundred times over.

I will have signs for sure. Those bold signs are not cheap...so it's a decision between buying a bunch of signs and renting the bold signs. I've been out in the community a lot, and hope that my time shaking hands will pay off as opposed to throwing money at the election.

None taken of course! The thing is to move up in the polls by say 5% is an enormous undertaking. To move from someone not knowing who you are and then voting for you over names they know is very difficult! Both McIver and Higgins have name recognition far beyond most of the others. Same goes for Hawkesworth and Hehr. That in and of itself gives them a leg up on many of the others. It means that a voter has to seek out these others, examine their policies and positions and then decide that they would prefer that to what they already know.

Only when the closures all Sundays in August moved to one Sunday in August did it become a festival.

Boy, if this insignificant street closing makes people's blood boil, imagine how much violence would erupt here if Calgary did what Copenhagen did last month, and make a 1.6km runway for fashion models throughout downtown streets! Look it up, no jokes.
Farrell's right though; if we always listened to critics we'd have no LRT, old City Hall, a performing arts centre or Lougheed buiding.

Who would complain about 1.6 kms of fashion models?

It's not about closing down the road or not - it's about having an actual reason to do it.

Democracy at work, most likely for the same reasons that Dion hates her, residents of Ward 7 like her. Hence why I see her winning again.

Funny thing about this Bow River Flow is that it's a bunch of people that don't even live near Memorial Dr. that are complaining about it.
Anyone? Anyone that lives in Sunnyside or Hillhurst want to pipe up here and whine about the Bow River Flow, or is it all a bunch of people that live 10+ km away that are pissed off about it?

question about the election, I am going to be living in Bankview at the time of election but my mailing address and driver's license is copperfield (parents' house until I have a long term address), where would I vote?

Because they closed a major road it impacts more than just those around it.
It's a touchy issue because some believe it is a perfect example of how this council operates poorly. It's less about what did or did not happen on the day in question - and more everything that lead up to it.

Memorial is a major road? On Sunday? For who? Please tell me this. Memorial Drive. On Sunday. Was there a traffic jam during this Bow River Flow? If so, the semis and the other transcontinental traffic should have stuck to 16th ave.

Yes Memorial is considered a major road in Calgary. I don't know how many cars pass through it on an average Sunday - nor do I care - what I care about is that it was shut down for what I consider to be a willy nilly reason.

I think Bankview. I think that you can bring a utility bill or something like that to prove your residence, but check that before you show up and waste your time!

Did anyone here who is STILL whining about the Bow River Flow actually ever go check it out? Or even drive down Memorial when it was going on?
I went to check it out last summer, and from what I could see, traffic was barely affected. It was down to two lanes for a very short stretch, but since it was a Sunday traffic was still flowing fairly well. It was in no way any worse than it was when there was a bunch of construction going on in that same stretch.
It's amazing the things people will whine about.

Lol. You're bent out of shape over something that did not affect you, cost you no money, and did not affect or cost money to anyone else. You're just choked that it didn't have a greater meaning before taking place. You deem it unworthy, and therefore, you are angry that it took place. Like some old curmudgeon that is mad that the kids played street hockey, and even though they moved the nets when the cars went by, the mere fact that such a useless activity took place makes him mad.
Way to go, Jiri, Dion, and all the rest of you whiners. Keep hating something that didn't affect you in the slightest. At least the Peace Bridge cost $25m.
