I'm pretty skeptical about the hiring. Two defensive coordinators are fired in disgust (one coordinated in the Super Bowl) and the Chiefs hire them both. Now a huge reason for the Chiefs 2-14 season was the front seven. They had the worst pass rush in NFL history. How can two men that were fired for poor performance improve the worst performing defense?

Didn't see this question earlier BBB. Ya I could definitely see how it'd be hard to get excited about this one. If you want some kind of silver lining, when Gibbs first came to N.O. in '06 the defence drastically improved from what it had been under Venturi. But then of course you know what happened in '07 and '08 under Gibbs. As Moe said, how much of it was the team and how much was Gibbs?

My big question about the hiring is this: isn't the Chiefs main problem on D a lack of pressure on the QB? Didnt they set some record of futility for lack of sacks last year? Because lack of pressure from the DL was the Saints calling card the past two seasons, and IMO is the main reason why Payton went after an aggressive, attacking DC like Gregg Williams this off-season. We'll see next season how much of it was the Saints DL, but you'd still at least think if the Chiefs were trying to improve this area they wouldn't go after a DC known for his passivity and reactionary D's.

^ Interestingly enough the Chiefs had a DC who was aggressive on the pass rush in the past. Herm had different ideas about how the defense should operate and Gunther failed at trying to adapt Herm's defensive strategy with the players. If Haley and Gibbs can work better together, which is entirely possible since Haley is offensive minded (won't be a dabbler on the defensive side of the ball), maybe it will work out. Although the Chiefs under offensive minded Vermiel had a pathetic defense as well. So maybe that approach isn't the best either?

Actually speakin about your D, how was Glenn Dorsey last year? Coming from LSU and being home-grown, I read about him all the time on the Saints boards, everyone was goin bananas prayin we'd get him on Draft Day, many were ready to sell the farm for him.

He had 46 tackles with 1 sack and 1 FF. Most in the KC media and on the Chiefs message boards feel he had a terrible rookie season. The D-line as a whole was pathetic and didn't pressure QB's at all. The Chiefs struggled against the run in 2007. Dorsey was looked upon as a guy who could help stuff the run in 2008. If you look at the Chiefs total rushing yards allowed for the season. You will see he had little if any impact in that category. I hear a lot of people say that it takes a few seasons for a DT to reach his potential in the NFL. Lets hope, or at least Chiefs fans can hope, that its true.

Saints fans should be happy that cooler heads prevailed and we drafted Ellis instead of going for Dorsey. He's going to the Pro Bowl sometime soon.

Andre Smith leaves the combine early, doesn't work out, hasn't hired an agent and is 15 pounds over playing weight.

Dude, this is your chance to sign a massive contract and be set for the rest of your life... don't let yourself go down the stretch and drop like LeWhale White.

That said... he sounds like the perfect Raider.

Anybody else watching the combine?

Mike Reilly, QB Central Washington is looking very good. He had the fastest 40 time of any QB not named Pat White in his group (4.74) and has looked very good throwing the ball in that group which includes Sanchez and Holbrook.

Why do I care about Reilly?

Flathead High School, Kalispell, MT!

He didn't look to bad in the Shrine Game, or Senior Bowl, or whatever showcase game he played a few weeks ago.

Maybe he'll be the next Jon Kitna?

We can hope. Phenomenal numbers in college, but of course the level of competition will always be questioned. The fact he was invited in the first place says something though. I'm sure he'll be picked. Would love to see the Broncos pick him up early on Day 2.

He went to Washington State, but decided he didn't want to wait to play. His experience and maturity will be a plus for him. I have wondered why he didn't transfer to Montana or Motana State where I would think he would've become an instant starter.

Maybe he transferred from Washington State because of the crushing pressure of living up to Ryan Leaf's standard? lol

I always like to see local guys stay local, perhaps he wanted to expand his horizons and see what the lovely town of Ellensburg had to offer...

Yeah, I'm a little concerned with Osweiller's decision to go to Arizona State. Competing with Jack Elway is going to be tough and he gave up a ride to Gonzaga to go play football at a school where it's conceivable he may never start a game. Scary situation if you ask me.

Why not stay at home, play both sports and be great. I think you give yourself just as much chance to be drafted that way.

I love the combine. Watched most of it on Saturday but only got to watch about an hour or so yesterday. For me it is a great way to see and hear about the upcoming draft class. I don't watch that much college football anymore so this is my first chance to see most of these players.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves watching the Combine. I missed most of it this year, which is strange. Usually I know the prospects to about the end of the third round....I don't see that happening this year.

I'm a little TOO excited for FA this year....I just wish it was Friday right now.

You still got two more days, plus they will replay it for next few weeks up untill the draft. I wish the NHL televised their scouting combine.

I find that interesting. You only used to see a few guys strip down to the compression shorts to run the 40. Now everyone does it. Does a light pair of UA shorts really slow you down a significant amount in a 40 yard dash? Or is it just the mental perception?

Mostly mental, I'm sure. They could be required to do so now, who knows? This is the first year that Under Armour has been providing the clothing, so maybe there was a stipulation in the contract.

I almost died laughing when we were watching 2 years ago. Antonio Cromartie was running the 40 and my wife says "He looks like he's smuggling a Subway sandwich!!!"

if they are loose yes. The added wind resistance would slow down the time, just look at all the track athletes for example.
