to help shore up our D corps

we are pleased to select
Defenceman: Roman Hamrlik

A former first overall pick, he was arguably Dion Phaneufs best partner and played a huge role in the development of the budding young star

if I had been around I would have taken Ville myself, possibly the biggest cult following for someone that played all of 19 regular season games (?)
I always referred to Ville as "the big dumb finnish grin", I still wear my neimo jersey from time to time

Honestly isn't that the truth? He does nothing to help my team - but from the moment the supplemental draft was mentioned I knew I wanted Niemo....to the point of logging in a couple mins early and being ready to post as soon as the time turned to noon. (I know, Me = x 1,000,000)

Some fave Niemo sayings from elsewhere on the board:
“We have got to play hospital hockey, lots of patience.”
"The other players tell me i have good hands.......in the casino."
“I think the Calgary Flames are bad losers, let's put it that way. I think you have to be a bad loser, and we showed that again.”

Fave quote from Sutter on Niemo...on what his suspension in the Tampa series meant: “One less Finn, fewer vowels.”

More Niemo love:

Sorry, been kind of out of it the last day or two.

Can I take Steve Konroyd as an extra D?

Don't have time for a write-up.

Hey it's 11:54... does that mean I can pick again after 12:00?

Team Hangin' at the Dome selects in the Supplemental draft Round 2, forward
Perry Berezan

Quote:
Perry Berezan (born December 5, 1964, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) is a former National Hockey League centre. He was drafted in the third round, 55th overall, by the Calgary Flames in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft.

After playing two seasons at the University of North Dakota, Berezan made his NHL debut with the Flames near the end of the 1984–85 season. He played with the Flames until March of the 1988–89 season, when he was traded (along with Shane Churla) to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange for Brian MacLellan and a draft pick.

Berezan joined the San Jose Sharks as a free agent before their inaugural season of 1991–92. He retired, as a Shark, following the 1992–93 season.
In his NHL career, Berezan appeared in 378 games. He scored 61 goals and added 75 assists. He also appeared in 31 Stanley Cup playoff games, scoring four goals and adding seven assists.

He was given credit for the series-clinching goal in the 1986 Campbell Conference Finals which was actually put into the net by Edmonton Oilers defenceman Steve Smith.

^Just for this goal alone.

I'll take Brett Hull.

57 Games
27 Goals
24 Assists
51 Points

Although his term in Calgary was short he was almost a point a game player.

It is his trade that really made me pick him, getting Rick Wamsley and Rob Ramage was key to the 1989 Cup win.

No time for chat - I promise to show my current pick the love that I showed the Joker......The Puck Was In! selects Krzysztof "The Polish Hammer" Oliwa.

That's right - be afraid.......*mwa-ha-ha*

[Side note: remember when the Flames played Nashville and Sutter on a PK put out Warrener & Commodore to play D, Oliwa on the wing & Regehr at center to take the draw? Classic!!!!]

Damn, I had to do a search for this; ended up with this youtube link (I didn't realize this was from the Kipper/Vokoun fight):

And from this thread: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...t=oliwa&page=4 I found this gem posted about this incident:

I can't search YouTube from work but thanks TVP - that has to be one of my fave moments vs Nashville - esp with Kipper actually going to center ice! LOL

As for Peter calling that moment when Oliwa pushed the liney, I just keep chuckling as I hear Pete's sonorous, "Oh noooooo....."

to add some speed, girt and sheer determination
Forward: Scott Nichol

I remember watching Scott Nichol in a preseason game vs Edmonton so many years ago, and leaving that game thinking: "Wow, he can skate" and hoping he would make the team.
His speed and size were reminiscent of Marty St. Louis, but with out the finish that St. Louis would show he had when he moved on to Tampa.
Nichol is a pest, and can get under the oppositions skin, but unlike other pests (i.e. ruutu, tootoo, avery) Scott Nichol was never afraid to drop the gloves while he was in Calgary
I always say, Id laugh my ass off if he decided to fight Chara

With our final supplemental pick, The Puck Was In!!! selects Marc Savard!

From Wiki:
On June 26, 1999, Savard was traded to the Calgary Flames, along with the Rangers' 1st round choice in 1999 (Oleg Saprykin), in exchange for the rights to Jan Hlavac and Calgary's 1st round pick (Jamie Lundmark) and 3rd round pick (later traded back to Calgary; Calgary selected Craig Anderson) in 1999. Savard continued to improve with the Flames and in 2000–01, he finished second in team scoring to Jarome Iginla with 65 points.
Shortly after beginning his fourth season with the Flames, he was acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers from Calgary in exchange for Ruslan Zainullin on November 15, 2002.

From The Hockey News.com - "Getting To Know Marc Savard"
Status: Boston Bruins center

DOB: July 17, 1977 In: Ottawa, Ont.
Hockey Inspiration: "Wayne Gretzky."
Hobbies/Leisure Activities: "The basics - golfing, fishing."
Nickname: "Savvy."
Favorite Movie: "Probably Wedding Crashers."
Favorite TV Show: "American Idol."
Musical Tastes: "Everything."
Last Book Read: "Who's Your Caddy? By Rick Reilly."
Early Hockey Memory: "In a major pee-wee tournament in Quebec, I got a penalty shot in triple overtime and I scored (age 12). And my first NHL game when I got called up (by New York) in '98, I got four assists at Maple Leaf Gardens. The first time I ever played there. Unbelievable. I couldn't sleep all night."
Favorite Meal: "Chicken Parmesan."
Favorite Breakfast Cereal: "Banana Nut Crunch."
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Rocky Road."
First Job: "Just hockey."
First Car: "1986 Dodge K car (red)."
Current Car: "2008 Range Rover super-charged."
Pre-Game Feeling: "Think of how I can help the team win."
Funny Hockey Memory: "Yeah, I remember (in Calgary) I put a sticker on Andy Sutton, in front of his helmet and he didn't realize until after practice. And we put 'Orr' on the front of his helmet and everybody was calling him Bobby Orr all practice. He had no idea why. And it was stuck on his helmet the whole practice."
Greatest Sports Moment: "I'd have to say playing with Wayne Gretzky (with New York Rangers), for sure."
Most Painful Moment: "That’s a tough one. I don't really have an answer for that one. It's been a lot."

Funniest Players Encountered: "Funny? I'm the funniest one (smiles). Kevin Stevens too, he was hilarious. Talks loud; he’s always talking. Gave guys nicknames."
Toughest Competitors: "Geez...I played against a lot of tough, tough competitors. Probably Chris Pronger. Adam Graves was another. He's the greatest guy off the ice, but on the ice, if something happened, he was meaner than hell."
Embarrassing Hockey Memory: "My pants fell down in a game in Calgary. I wear the pants with a belt and my belt buckle broke and my pants were down. So that was embarrassing."
Last Halloween Costume: "A jailbird."

Hmm... I thought HD already signed this guy, but it looks like he went with Bork instead, so I'll pick him up over a speedy forward, a gifted passer, a fearless d-man, and a rugged goon.

Team Harvey the Hound is pleased to sign Mike Cammalleri, F.
