I like Raiders but I think the Indiana Jones franchise fell on its face after that. The other sequals could hardly be worse in my opinion. Still good choice as Raiders was thoroughly enjoyable.
I thought about this, and I had to weigh my needs against what I thought other people would do. It seems to me that as more Westerns get picked early, more Westerns will get picked. As you say, it's not as popular a genre as others, so many people may only have a limited number of Westerns that they have actually seen.
At this point, there are going to be 40 more movies chosen before I get to pick again. Prior to my choice, 4 of the first 33 picks were Westerns. If that average continues, there will be 5 more chosen before my 3rd Round pick. I can think of quite a few Westerns that I like, but I don't know how many of those will be left by my next pick. Even though I consider myself a fan of the genre, it is one of the weakest categories on my list, so I can withstand dropping to my 5th or 6th (or 10th) choice in other categories more than I can Westerns.
I guess what I'm really saying is, everyone should focus on filling up their Western choices and ignore the other categories.
This post makes me think that I should spend some of my downtime this weekend developing a draft strategy. I was kind of just wingin' it!
I guess that's easy to do when you have the #1 pick. I'm guessing my choice would've been gone before the end of round 2 though, so maybe I did have a bit of strategy.
Love Unforgiven, BTW.

Temple of Doom was absolute garbage IMO. I quite like the third one, though clearly it is nowhere close to Raiders. Haven't seen the 4th yet. Seems like it's momentum has kind of died.

I was asked to go ahead and make my pick, so here goes.
As it's 2nd pick, team Selfmade Heroes picks in the Sci-Fi category Blade Runner (1982).
"Rising director Ridley Scott's follow-up to his hit Alien (1979), is one of the most popular and influential science-fiction films of all time - and it has become an enduring cult classic favorite."
One of my favourite scenes.
And propably the most classic scene:
All truly great science fiction is about ideas, studying the basic questions of humanity through interesting hypotheticals. Science fiction movies are also about visuals, vision of things that could be. Blade Runner is in my opinion a standout among all science fiction movies ever made, being both visually beatiful and entertaining yet at the same time deeply philosophical and truly intellectual, examining the very basics of what it is to be human. For those who have not seen it, I would recommend watching either the Director's cut or the Final Cut, neither of which have the unnecessary voiceover underlining everything that's going on, nor the silly end scene in which we suddenly and inexplicably see the heroes drive out of town into green pastures, the very existence of which is in contrast with the tone of the movie.
This is also the fourth movie in this draft starring Harrison Ford (the others being of course two Star Wars movies and Raiders of the Lost Ark).
Sweet. I'll take Goodfellas as an award winner (Oscar)Not the selection I had originally intended to make with this pick however I did not expect it to still be available. I'll just have to take my chances with my next pick still being around next go.
Jimmy decides to whack Morrie.
I think Goodfellas won the golden globe and not the oscar.
I believe it won several awards. Just checked imdb and the Oscar was for Joe Pesci as Best Actor in a Supporting role. It aslo won a Golden Globe for best picture. Good call.

I believe "award winners" only counts the equivalents of "best picture" in this thread, so a supporting role doesn't cut it. But of course with the Golden Globe it's a non-issue in this case
Also, third movie starring DeNiro. Won't be the last.
With its second pick, Team That's What She Said chooses, from the Thriller/Horror category the 1991 movie from Jonathan Demme, The Silence of the Lambs.
This film by far and away, was carried on the shoulders of its 2 leads - Jodie Foster as the tough, yet vulnerable rookie FBI agent, Clarice Starlng and Anthony Hopkins as the deviously cannibalistic, uber-villain Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Both actors won Oscars for their roles while the movie also won Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay & Best Picture nods.
With their second round pick TEAM NC-17 selects, in the western catagory, BLAZING SADDLES...
Laced with racial stereotypes and a guy punching out a horse, this is easily Mel Brooks' masterpiece. But I picked it for one reason, and one reason only...
run lola run (lola rennt) is a fantastic movie, didnt anticipate it going in the second round, but then again i did take south park with the 7th overall pick

Blazing Saddles is the funniest movie of all time, I knew it wouldn't be around for long. "The sheriff is near!!!" Can't believe Silence of the Lambs lasted this long, either.
I don't know but I've been told.

Eskimo Pu%*y is mighty cold.
Not true.
