I had to deal with a guy named Keyvhelyn Laroque today...
About as middle-aged W.A.S.P. as they come.

I just picked it because my mom's name is Julie, and I liked the sound of Julina.

I think it is a great name.
Conversely, I found out this week that someone on my route actually named their kid Jumanji.

I didn't want my kids to have really unusual names. I didn't want them having the most popular either. So I chose both of their names out of the top 50 but not the top 10. I still have memories in my childhood of being with my brothers and them being able to get little license plates with their names on them for their bikes but mine wasn't there. For whatever reason, my pretty normal name wasn't very popular when I was a kid. I wanted my kids to have all the pencils, stickers, license plates, etc. that they wanted. That was my motivation.

With our first child on the way, this thread is classic and very useful. I cannot believe some of the strange names that seemingly normal folks come up with. Have they forgot how mean kids are? Or do they think that since every kid now seems to have a weird name that they'll be immune to bullies? We haven't gotten much into names yet but I am dead-set on some normal traditional name like Jennifer or Ryan with no changes in spelling.
Here's an example of buddies with new babies.....
- Odon (cute kid but not a black jazz singer from New Orleans)
- Sayler (cute spin on Taylor for a little girl until she grows up to be a stripper wearing Sailor suit attire)
- Forrest (I doubt this gumpy kid will meet any US Presidents)
- Lala (prononced Layla like the Clapton song......where the f is they y?)

It was probably stolen by someone who wanted to name their kid Skyyler.

A co-worker of mine once met a Filipino guy with the first name "Kowalski". His parents liked the sound of the name.
Naming your daughter "Anita" is risky - I once met Anita Beer and spoke with Anita Dick. Cruel names for sure.

If this is a rule, it doesn't seem to be enforced. When my son was born a few weeks ago, we could have easily left the hospital without handing in the form. They asked us to do it, but we didn't have to.

So what happens then?
Do you have to return to the hospital with the completed form? I'm looking at my second lad's registration of birth form from (foothills) and it's signed by the hospital registrar 4 days after the birth.

Best weird name ever in my opinion is the name Frank Zappa gave his daughter ... Moon Unit. That one still cracks me up.

My first name is Damien and I have caught flack and gotten teased for it my whole life. Damn devil jokes get on my nerves, and it hasn't stopped even in adulthood. Some names I like for boys are, Remy, Jack, Vincent, Liam and Carter. Girls would be Charlotte, Ann, Marissa, Robyn and Kimberly.

Once a mere reflection of the times, baby names are now considered shorthand for everything from the parents' values to the likelihood of future child-therapy bills. Choosing a title that's at once unique but not precious, stylish but not trendy, meaningful but not obscure, is seen by many expectant moms and dads as the first test of their prowess as parents.

We named our daughter Anja. We wanted to use something a little different. She's always getting compliments about her name.

I'm not a big romance novel fan but I do like the historical romances written by Anya Seton and I've always LOVED her name . She must have too as her real name was Ann.

Does any one else find that meeting someone you don't get along with ruins that name forever? I've seen "Liam" brought up a couple times on this site as a name people like but I met a Liam last year that I couldn't stand and it has just ruined the name for me. Every time I hear that name I think about how much I couldn't stand him...
