For cheap, CPU is pretty good. 2 very big slices for $6, practically the size of the Hot N Ready.

Anyone been to Famosa?
Naples style pizza (less cheese but with globs of real mozzarella instead), which I found to be quite taste. They have a deal on Wendsdays where for an extra $6.00 you can add a movie ticket to your pizza. Considering that movie tickets are $12+ these days, I though it was a pretty solid deal.

Uber greasy, odd crunchyness, oh and did I mention greasy? Totally disappointing, really broke my heart since I always had great memories of the place.

That's sad to hear. When I first moved to Calgary (2000), I lived in Wildwood for about 5-6 years and I was a regular customer there. Probably one of my favorite things about that neighbourhood. Even after I moved further down south I would make a special trip here and there just to get a pizza. I hadn't been there in a while and actually was in the area 2 Sundays ago. I went to get a pizza but they were closed.
What a shame.

Do you know when this happened? I loved this pizza but haven't had it in while (like 8 months) so just wondering if I had new or old A Pizza Plus.

In my opinion it was decent, but not amazing. I had the Santa Fe pizza, and I was disappointed because it came out a bit soggy. Because the crust was so thin it was too flimsy to just pick up and eat with one hand and I had to slice it up with my knife and fork. Maybe it was a crappy cook that day, I don't know.
The gelato there is really good though. The burnt sugar caramelized banana chocolate one is outstanding.

I'm wondering too, would be such a shame A Pizza Plus was the best deal in the city for a great pizza pie!!

Napolitan pizza is suppossed to be eaten with a knife and fork. Not only does it have a thin crust, but the cheese is not in a uniform layer. Without that uniform layer, there's nothing to hold the topings in place. So you're suppossed to see the topings slide around on the top of the pizza in the sauce.
If the pizza was raw, that's another matter though. Famosa is a franchise, so you will expect variation in the quality of the cooks, who will largely be hung over young people.

I'm certainly willing to give it another go. I see the potential there, and I only live 5 minutes away from the MK Towne location.I almost feel like it was a flaw in the recipe, or an oversight.on the expo's part. The corn salsa that was on top was straight up runny, and it just seeped through and saturated the crust. That salsa should be strained beforehand to remove all of the excess liquid.
Then again, maybe I just don't like thin crust pizza.

We tried it at West Ed Mall. It was quite good, a bit soggy maybe, but that could be intentional. We sat at the bar by the kitchen - there was an assembly line of ten line cooks, and a very stressed out manager. They spoiled a number of pizzas, and had to throw them out. A bit pricey. You have to order at the counter.

Last time I had their pizza it definately not the same. It was greasier and the ingredients did not seem to be of the same quality that I remember when it was called Sandros.

Grimaldis is as good as I've had outside of Italy, so I don't disagree it's fantastic, but I disagree that it's better than in Naples. All the best NY pizzerias pride themselves on their ingredients and many import them from Campania. If they all use most of the same core ingredients....one would assume the pizza in Naples is that much more fresh no?
Naples pretty much ruined me for NY pizza....Ny pizza is a bit of a different product and still good, but man, it's just not as transcendent. The buffalo mozzarella alone.....god, I remember once eating just a bag of cheese for dinner, and it was one of the best meals ever. I could eat a bucket of that stuff.

I went a few months ago based on some old recommendations here, and I guess the management change already happened, because it was the mega thick greasy stuff described a couple posts ago. I normally enjoy a good greek pizza loaf (Spiros, etc) but this one was heavy even for me. And the caesar salad was loaded with those gross fake bacon bits that I'm sure are just flavored gravel. I had an irregular heartbeat for a couple days after, not sure if it was the pizza, salad or the combination.
why are there so many damn stories of how this place or that place used to be the pizza bomb, but now it's under new management and it's just a hot circle of garbage. I guess the only safe thing to do is find places that are relatively new and eat there for no longer than a couple years at most.

Is it true that one of the 'secret ingredients' to NYC pizza is the city water? I heard New York pizzerias are very particular about this. I could be wrong though, I've never been to NYC.

Funny you say that, I am sure I watched an episode of Triple D and one place he went had their water shipped in from NYC for that very reason.

I was hoping you were going to tell me that it was a long time ago... that way I just like crappy pizza and I could continue getting what I thought was awesome pizza. so disappointing.

Another Pizza joint I really like is Paul's (downtown on 6th ave). I'm not going to say it's the best pizza in town but certainly worth trying out.

Ha, not sure, but who knows. I always felt like those kinds of claims have more to do with marketing and creating an aura of something special, than some huge benefit. But you never know...
Besides, considering some of the rumors out there, I'm not sure NY water is something you want duplicated!
