Really need to cool our jets in here. Got a point because of one of the league's worst goalies, and an extra one in the skills contest.
Good starts for Gridin and Zary, though. Hope that gives them a lot of confidence. I expect Zayne to draw in tonight against a weaker opponent, but I think hiding him against McDrai sends the wrong message anyway.
I think the opposite, as showing your rookie dman those two from the press box view, will prep him for what not to do when hes in the line up the next time they play the Oil sucks

Fair enough. They could play him and have him put some extra time in with video, but maybe the view from the press box allows him to see things you just don't get from ice level or the tape.
No we don't lol it's the first game and first win of the season, screw you.
Relax brother. My point was we're not getting that luck for 82 games, it's impossible. Skinner threw that one away.
Big proclamations about Wolf being a top three G in the league, and how we're out of danger of a bottom-ten finish are so premature. I think we need to remember it's one game.
We can still enjoy the win and also contextualise it.

We already know what the team can do. End of last year they played great hockey.
Goaltending, age, depth, and not giving up were the questions.
Backlund and Kadri looked great. Wolf and gridin looked great. And they played better after a week start against the best line in hockey by a huge margin

Lol, no one here is proclaiming the Flames to be some kind of powerhouse. We're all just enjoying a win against our most hated rival. This team could have thrown in the towel after it was 3-0 and they didn't, which is encouraging. And Wolf was outstanding.

It's nice to see a comeback win and the Flames starting to win their season openers again. It's been mentioned a little already and it was an OT game but game 1 Draisaitl was 24:40, McDavid was over 26 and Bouchard was over 28. Yikes.. On the Flames side, Gridin is looking way better than I expected for a 19yo.

Funny that a shootout showed it but Flames depth >>> Oilers depth. Sure it went to 8 rounds for both teams but it would have ended way earlier but for two posts. And Calgary was still working offensive type players like Sharky, Zary and Kadri while Edmonton was trotting out Kaspari Kapanen (5 goals last year), a point shooting Dman in Bouchard and Matt Savoie (no NHL goals).
Lomberg-Kirkland-Sharangovich
Didn't play enough for it to be posted but Lomberg really struggled while the other two were okay. Lomberg sucked the offence out of every line he was on including with Backlund and Coleman who went from 60+ xGF% to in the 30s.
I'd say the Zary-Backlund-Coleman line looks like a keeper. Maybe give Honzek a look with Kirkland and Klapka and put Sharkey with Kadri and Farabee?

I still dont fully understand how they won that game.
Come back from 3-0 with 3 of the more weird goals you'll see in a while.
All you need to understand is that stuff like this is why this version of the Oilers are 0-2 in cup finals. Bad goaltending, poor defense, lack of compete for the full game. Edmonton is no good.

I hate to tell you this, but I’ve just launched an air biscuit
McDavid had more ice time last night (26:21) than any Flames player did and was 2nd to only Bouchard on the Oilers. If they keep up this pace, he definitely won't be burnt out by the time playoffs rolls around

Doesn't really sound like you're enjoying it TBH.
Massive comeback for a win on the road against the hated rival. That's a great thing, full stop.
