For U19 players 1.38 p/gp is the best in the country right now, with Horcoff (1.25), Mckenna (1.20), Reschny (1.20), and Potter (1.08) making up the top 5.
But it's also the 11th best in the past 20 years - with some really remarkable names:
That's pretty good company to keep for a 18 year old, 5th round pick.
So what you are telling me is that 80% of the top 5 scoring U19s in the NCAA are or will be Flames?

So I was thinking about doing that but got lazy too...but
So not including Wyttenbach the average draft position of these players was 8th overall.
Wyttenbach was 144 which is mid 5th round so practically a 4th rounder. Which, if you think about it, is not much different than a 3rd as far as chances of making the NHL. So really equivalent to a 3rd. Or 2nd.

which would be exciting except for the fact at 18 he's almost 40

Kind of fitting he was the first-ever recipient of the Gaudreau Award. Would be nice for the Flames to find another diamond in the rough with this kid.
Wonder how many place he climbs in our prospect poll this summer.
Yeah, I was looking at this yesterday, too.
If we did a re-poll of last year's list, and assuming everyone else stays the same for simplicity (I know that isn't realistic), I would probably slot him 7th, behind Honzek.
For this year, if we were voting today, I would probably go:
2026 1st (CGY)
Parekh
Reschny/Gridin
Gridin/Reschny
Brzustewicz
Honzek
Potter
Wyttenbach
2026 1st (VGS)
??? (we may have another 1st, or another prospect or two before the deadline)
(assuming Kuznetsov has graduated)
maybe the 2nd 1st goes higher
Starting to get really solid - to the point where you could argue the real possibility of the entire top 10 making it to the NHL.

After watching this in depth interview with Wyttenbach I’m very excited; I think we may have landed a gem in the 5th round with this pick.
Jump to 18 min mark where it starts to talk about Ethan, 20 min mark is when Ethan joins and the 30 min+ interview takes place. What a well spoken kid who is driven to be the very best he can be.
While the Gaudreau comparisons and connections are obvious, Wyttenbach is of a stockier build. Maybe more like a Martin St. Louis? If he works on his 200 ft game and builds up leg muscle, he could be something special.

Wyttenbach is the only freshman anywhere near the top in scoring; the other two are Justin Poirier (5th 2024 Hurricanes, brother Jeremie Poirier) and Porter Martone (6th overall 2024 Philly), both of those guys turned 19 in the fall, Wyttenbach is 19 next month.
Notable players around him in scoring are Michael Hage (24th overall 2024 Monteal) and Will Horcoff (24th overall 2025 Penguins). Both are Sophmore playesr.
Horcoff is the only comparable player but left the USHL early last season to join his College team midway through the season, he turned 19 yesterday. One was a 1st round pick, the other a 5th.
The big difference is Will Horcoff has a lot of offensive support. Hage and he are teammates with Michigan and the second leading scoring the NCAA, TJ Hughes a 24 year old senior, is also on the team. Wyttenbach meanwhile is leading his team in points with a sizable gap of 10.

When I see highlights of him I think "okay that looks like an undersized player" but it's much different than Gaudreau thinking "IS THAT A CHILD!". Gaudreau was lucky to be listed at 5'9 for all of his career, I think even 5'7 was generous. I don't think size is going to be an issue for Wyttenbach to be honest. Don't think he looks different than Coronato

tho I suppose McKenna is 'right there' with Poirier and Martone in the Fr conversation, albeit all in raw points well behind our man Wyttenbach
He is ridiculous! What a steal. Thanks for sharing HJ!
