Could someone that watched that interview give a few Cole’s notes?
probably missed some, since I'm going off memory but:
- skipped grades in school and graduated early so he could give junior his full attention. Took lots of naps his first year of junior. Considers himself prone to procrastinating and not that smart, but claim seemed dubious
- loves Steven Stamkos as a fan, would have worn 91 but Saginaw didn't let him so he wears 19
- he got recognized pretty often while in Calgary
- scoring a goal at the Memorial Cup game 1 was memorable
- had some weird feelings about not getting invited for World Juniors initially
- at the World Junior tryouts when he was finally invited, he had a bad skate edge and kept falling, wasn't surprised he got cut
- was bored one day and watched Quinn Hughes youtube highlights and thinks he's amazing, been working with Dawn Braid to hopefully learn to skate that well
- drives a Tesla and finds charging on the highway is a bit of a hassle
- doesn't like the flavour of Indian food.
- does like.. Sushi

I know it’s still really early but I’m very glad the Flames didn’t go with Silayev. New Jersey might regret it as well
How was Silayev’s D+1 season? Obviously not what Parekh’s was but did he show any progress in his offensive game? Am glad Parekh ended up in Calgary for sure but I am curious how other defencemen from that draft are doing as well.
Silayev in his draft year: 3 goals 8 assists in 67 games (2 pts in 5 playoff games)
Silayev in his draft +1 year: 2 goals 10 assists in 67 games (0 pts in 4 playoff games)

Early still of course but those are very poor numbers for a top 10 pick. He could still be a great player one day but the knock on Silayev is that he has never put up the offensive numbers at any level that usually projects into a top 4 defencemen… which is what a team should be hoping to get from a defenceman drafted in the top 10.
Well he's basically guaranteed a roster spot, which is step one. And he'll certainly get his looks playing alongside McDavid or Draisaitl. The odds are probably favouring opportunity and not necessarily the player's abilities.

It's almost always about opportunity as much as skill.
Howard will get a great opportunity.
Parekh will likely get an opportunity to play (as opposed to going back to juniors), but Calgary isn't the most gifted offensive team. Look at Bouchard getting points on the Oilers. Opportunity and teammates, especially for dmen.

It is very hard to draw conclusions from KHL numbers
The compelling thing about him is he’s huge and a very good skater
I wouldn’t write him off
