One was a hit on an unsuspecting player who never had possession or even played/touched the puck.

The other was a hit on a guy who had just passed the puck to his teammate, and was literally watching his pass instead of paying attention to what was going on around him. When you watch the play at live speed, the hit is less than a second after the pass.

The first 5 min major for interference was on a vicious hit on an unsuspecting player that was at no point in time eligible to be hit. The second 5 min major was on a vicious hit on a player that was eligible to be hit a fraction of a second prior, and was just not paying attention while gliding through the neutral zone admiring his pass.

It's not shocking at all that the the usual Tkachuk haters are crying for a suspension, but there is a very clear distinction between the two hits.

I'm an old school ogre. To me Tkachuck is just being an A-hole and laying a hit really late on a good player because he's angry that his team is about to lose. If Tampa gets focused coming back at him next game, that's what he wants.

But if they start handing out suspensions for that....just take all body checking out of hockey.

Maybe read, I said it was a dirty hit and deserved the major but I didnt think it would be a suspension because it wasnt as bad and the other guy only got one. You cant suspend half a game. My argument was against the "2 at best" "tad late" crowd...wasn't much of a debate TBH.

I predicted a fine I thought they would give him something, they obviously looked at it and decided 5 was enough...its still deemed a dirty hit just not as bad as the hit that got one game.

Cali had a very good and reasonable take and he is the biggest Panthers fan here as far as I know...you call out other bias but don't recognize your own in this case.

Where are the opinions in my post you called out as bias? It was an illegal hit. 5 min major and got ejected after review.

Be more like Cali, he can have a reasonable take without having to justify. Its a bad hit no matter how big a fan you are.

The NHL was never going to say if 5 was appropriate dino

The points I outlined in my first comment on this are pretty much, to a point, what Friedman outlined, to which you took umbrage

And quite honestly if you take a look where the actual contact happened, it was right at the edge of the circle. Tkachuk turned, didn’t even take a stride, and put a shoulder into a guy who was admiring his pass. Not like he stalked him like Bertuzzi did to Moore, or Lindros’d him like Stevens, or even did what Hagel did.

Clearly 5 was at minimum enough (or more than enough, but they will never say that) in the view of the NHL

Bolts were going to have a target on them after the Barkov hit. Its still there. Hagel is gonna get squared up next game.

How about Seth Jones. Most minutes out of any skaters yesterday and finished even in a 5-1 game. Hes fit in nicely.

How is that Forsling slash breaking the stick on a point blank chance not a penalty shot?

Oof...Ekblad just got away with a brutal forearm shiver/elbow to Hagel. Hagel off the ice for concussion protocol as he got up wobbly.

Ekblad got very, very lucky there. Pretty dirty play.

More comically bad reffing this playoffs. Ekblad nails Hagel with a forearm to the face with the ref 5 feet away staring right the hit…no call.

NHL officiating in the playoffs is legitimately embarrassing.

I don’t think that’s how karma works. It was Ekblad intentionally getting revenge on the player who hurt him a few days ago.
