The big question coming out of last week’s Operation: Italy shocker is how everyone would react to Andy flipping. As expected, there was a rainbow of reactions. There was confusion (Teeny: “Andy is better at this game then we all thought, or we are worse than we all thought”). There was anger (Sue: “Andy freakin’ flipped, so right now I want to rip Andy’s head off his freakin’ shoulders”). And there was at least one person who was super impressed with Andy’s move… ANDY! (“This is the coolest move anyone’s ever f---ing done” ).
The other big pre-challenge news was Rachel telling Sue about her immunity idol so that Sue would finally stop digging by the water well. Was this just because Rachel could no longer stand Sue getting dirt all over her face? Who’s to say?
Andy goes from jury management to the jury
As soon as I saw the first challenge out in the water, I got super excited. Not only excited to see a water challenge, but excited for the host to bust out the most underrated of Probstisms — “Bring in the boat!” (Although, it would be funnier if he stuck with “Come on in” while in the ocean and then had to just awkwardly stand there by himself because none of the contestants could hear him from a mile away.)
When I saw the challenge ended with a Survivor logo puzzle, I considered it a done deal for Rachel.
BUT NO! This time it was Genevieve
I will say this: I thought the jury’s reaction to Rachel’s idol play and Andy’s exit was very telling. And it wasn’t just mild-mannered Caroline letting out a “F--- YEAH!” The jury as a whole looked ecstatic. Sure, we can chalk some of that up to an exciting Tribal Council move, but we certainly didn’t see that same excitement last week after Operation: Italy. Their reactions here were a pretty vivid display of how they felt about both Andy and Rachel in this game.
Like this second challenge. Was there any reason for the players to run in from the ocean and dig through sand to get under a log before starting the final stage? Absolutely none whatsoever!
Pretty much the second Rachel won immunity, I said out loud to no one in particular, “Sam needs to tell them Genevieve’s idol is fake.” This did not make me a Survivor mastermind. It was the obvious and only play. The only question was, would they believe him?
As we went to Tribal, the question remained what the trio would do. And that question still appeared to be open even when they got there, with Teeny and Rachel disagreeing on whether they should all load up on Genevieve or spit the vote.
After the voting, Genevieve revealed the idol was indeed fake, and Sue then played her idol, which probably didn’t make as big a splash as she hoped. Because the main headline was that Genevieve was finally gone, voted out 3-2.
